Sounds like user error.

You can even run v-brakes as cantilevers on a frame that's meant for cantilevers.
Actually don't do this, it's not that good. Where can I get a clamp-on cable guide?

Where can I get a clamp-on cable guide?
You don't need one, just insert a bit of cable outer between the guide on the seat lug and the v-brake noodle

I did try that, but couldn't see a way to get the cable outer to run neatly. Maybe with an extra bendy noodle. Also seems like it would be really draggy
-

Maybe try a 3.7mm to 5mm stepped ferrule to align the outer with the guide.

Would certainly help, but the cable would still be traversing quite an elaborate series of chicanes. Will see if I can hunt down a bendy noodle and stepped ferrule at the co-op and give it a go anyway

This is what I thought too...

Can you run v brakes on frames that are meant for cantis? Tried to fit a deore rear brake to my muddy fox seeker and the pads needed to be spaced more toward the rear rim? And then the spring arm would pop out when any pressure is applied to the brake...
I had exactly this problem too on an old Raleigh mtb. It wasn't even a lever compatibility issue, the pads were just miles away from the rim.

• #109213
Yeah this is it, may just have to space the pads inward

New long-term project arrived today, won't be able to afford to build it up for a little while. Think I want to put some deep 90's wheels on it like tecno/fir aria/shamal etc. 9 speed campag, not sure on saddle and tape colours yet. maybe white? -
• #109220
It has enough going on already without white tape. Has to be black for me.

What type of tubes is that ? Columbus Genius ?
go ahead for light and stiff parts, it's a nice frame, can go to carbon forks...
All black is nice with yellow, black wheels or Gipemme techno rims will be fine...
Shamal will match also... -
• #109222
It's columbus brain. Tecnos would be nice if only for the matchy matchy yellow decals. Only deep black rims I know of from the 90's is Mavic cosmics, they might look alright if they're the ones with smaller decals. Originally planned to go all silver bits with white tape and saddle but as alialias said, might be a bit OTT with the lairy paint.

Would you like a Cinelli Angel to go with that? Not quite the right era for the frame, but if you're going all deep-rimmed pursuit-style...

last one please, orange forks
v brakes are a type of cantilever, the posts should be in the same place for either type
