  • iPhone 6 screen repairs - cheapest? fastest? Apple quoting me "between 85 and 245 squids and up to 5 days". Frame fine. Glass shattered.

  • Also their chat service is fucking rubbish. Useless dishrags being nothing but vague and safe in everything they say.

  • Mrs G just got a Macbook, quite beautiful and perfect for the home user with some light pro-use

  • A 15" option would be nice but she can't wait for whatever Apple's going to come up with next and it'll inevitable be even more expensive than the already toppy 12"

  • I fucking love the 12" macbook, I even "work" on it .. although I agree a 13/14/15" would be nice. It can handle photoshop, sketch and keynote simultaneously.

  • iPad Air with new Logitech keyboard cover for sale here: https://www.lfgss.com/conversations/290339

  • Anyone got a copy of Office for Mac? Or a link?

    How's that ;)

Or if you're not into buying, try open office or libre office, or even pages, numbers etc. will do most stuff ok

  • The Force Touch trackpad had blown my mind, it's proper magic

  • I want a Mac with a decent GPU and 10.12 to have the rumoured built in RX 480x drivers.

Also, the rumoured Oled touch bar to replace the function keys - it better be more than that - thats crying out to be the 3D gesture device Apple has patented like https://www.leapmotion.com

I may well pop over to Cupertino and punch Tim Cooke in the balls if the above requests are not met.

  • Not only do they have RX480 drivers but they show up as PCI-E, which may be making a comeback.

Also, people have been upgrading older Pros with great results. I found this on another forum:

A friend of mine works with Blender and recently purchased a 2009 cMP 4,1 simply because that was the fastest option for him.
He spent 500€ on the minimum spec computer and another 800€ (I believe?) to upgrade it with a PCIe SSD (M.2 + 20€ adapter), 6x3.46Ghz processor, 32 GB of RAM and a used GTX980.

The only downside is that they are roughly the size of a one bedroom flat in London, and it you drop one on your foot, you will die. But they do bench quite well...

  • All bets are off for what they do with the new ones though. The PCI-E stuff could just be a test bed they've been using internally.

If they were to keep the current form-factor, they should have options for 2x cpu/1x gpu and 1x cpu/2x gpu. That would give it much broader appeal.

  • Ha, seen that before... roughly the size of my living room so it's a no go.
I don't think the RX480 drivers are confirmed, there is like some numbers in a driver that match the 480 or something but thats not quite the same, I think.
I was toying with the idea of an old MP once but would not be able to fit in in my study/dayz room.

  • It would be great if they combined the Mini and Pro... Have a Xeon option for the Mini and a matching, stackable thunderbolt GPU to convert it to the full-fat version.

    #nevergonnahappen

  • Ahhhh the ol xMac.

But yeah. You know there are rumours of a display with a GPU?

No new hardware will be released before the iPhone 7 as rumour has it they are dropping the 3.5 jack all over the shop and want to reveal it on the phone first.

5K display with RX 480 and a Macbook with 3D touch gesture things, I'd settle for that....

  • Based on how much the old display cost, the new one with GPU will cost as much as an iMac.

  • Just started a new job where i have to use macs.

Fucking stupid detached title bar bollocks. Also, mouse and keyboard immediately went in the bin. Any options to make the keys match on my regular computer keyboard?

  • It's really not that hard. I switch between OS X and W10 quite a bit.
The latest Mac keyboard and mouse are the nicest I have ever used, not sure how you can complain about them... you should maybe try and learn how to use them.

@Well_is_it I expect a non GPU version available too for the MacPro (if it continues?!). Gotta be a coupe of 100 less than the base iMac so that's not too bad really.

  • You say that - I wonder how much of a faff it would be to machine a custom case with those specs? Might be my next project...

  • I'm considering that too. Seen some amazing custom cases. I'm toying with the idea of making one out of plastic first then metal and wood..

  • Let's do this.

  • DEAL. (prelim sketches and measurements underway!)

    http://forums.bit-tech.net/showthread.php?t=243106

  • Im sure its pretty simple machining an aluminium square with rounded corners. Getting the bead-blast finish to match the mini would be super hard though.

Not sure how easy parts are to DIY an external GPU either but in theory it should be easy.

You could even just 3D print the case, to be honest. Have it up and running in a day.

  • Holy shit that's cool. Shame about the colourful pc ports though.

I just want a keyboard that doesn't hurt when I type due to the ridiculously short, hard action, and have a spacebar that actually recognises a press across the entire width.
