  • Was on track for 300 miles up to 16h and then went bang. Stomach stopped processing food, all blood was being diverted to the legs. Had no choice but to stop and sleep for 90 minutes to let the body sort itself out. Pushed on once I'd done that but was still struggling, finished reasonably strong though. Loads of time off the bike (5h maybe).

GPS says ~294m, final timekeeper had me down as 282m. I think they may be missing one of my QB laps (I was very erratic and often stopped for long periods at the no-support tent). I'm sure it'll all get sorted out, I'll wait for the official results whilst also counting the various loops from my GPS track and submit a claim if the two don't tally.

Made tonnes of mistakes, but that's good. Feeding was the big problem. I knew the 24 cafe was shut overnight but should have planned more properly. Thinking it was shut 10-6 and so I aimed there for 8.30pm only to find it was actually shutting 8-6 didn't help.

67" was probably the right gear choice given my lack of training, low target and poor execution. Could really have done with a freewheel and gears but that's not the point.

Organisation was fantastic, as were the volunteers, and LOADS of support from all the rides and their supporters.

#11 when the photos go up, look for the LFGSS cap.

Broadwith won again but not as far as his ride last year, so Andy's record is safe.
