Thanks for the reply. I jumped the gun and ordered a Dynamic from Mantel.com
Gone for blind faith and hope this saddle becomes cloud 9 on me backside (wide) lol
-
• #1003
The good news is that a wide backside make no difference.
You'll find it comfortable as it's well padded, but expect a lots of tweaking to get it right (moving saddle forward, getting the angle right etc.).

I find Lusso shorts are good for me. Often fancy shorts have too much padding, too wide, and it crinkles up between the legs and causes rubbing :)
Altura = too much.

Yeah from reading this whole thread, adjustment is key.
Cant wait!

does anyone have an smp for sale, preferably something like a dynamic or a composit?
-
• #1007
Arrived today!
Gotta finish building the rest of the bike. Planning to sell my car as I really do not need it. Plus its expensive running it.
Hopefully this will be my backsides best buddy! (I know I know, Im leaving myself open ((no punintended)) to pizz taking with that sentence) over and out ...

Some little shit knicked my chinese carbon copy today. I hope he posts it for sale somewhere and gets caught by some vigilant italian copyright smp worker. Wanker.

SMP trk turns out to be a massive asshatchet on a Dutch upright rental bike. After 35 miles the fun began bought a Dutch ergo sofa saddle in the end.
I'm not so convinced now it works on uprights :)

I'll have a lite209 ready for sale next week, if that suits your bones :)

Im looking for a different saddle for my touring bike and see that some people are using sells SMP's. But aren't these saddles too narrow for the more upright position of a touring bike?
-
• #1012
How upright are you sitting?
I may be able to give some pointers as I've used several SMPs.

so far I've ridden these smps:
composit, dynamic, china copy, hell (padded and unpadded)
- composit is so far the best saddle I've ever had the pleasure of riding
- dynamic aint bad, but somehow I couldnt get the same support as I get from composit. Ended up sliding forward. Might have to do with composit having less steep canyon in the middle and less steep tumblehome
- the shape of the china carbon is quite close to composit. It is rather nice for the price.
- hell with padding feels quite weird, without padding it is kind of like unpadded dynamic. Not enough support for me -> i keep sliding forward. Might work with sit up n beg setup.
- composit is so far the best saddle I've ever had the pleasure of riding

I've ridden the following:
Lite 209, SMP Pro, SMP Plus, SMP TRK
Lite 209 is about as padded as a Pro, but the rear is too narrow so I sit on my front bones which isn't good
SMP Pro works fine on my street track, bars lower than saddle, back about 30% angle with floor
SMP Pro also works fine on my tourer, back about 45% angle with floor. The TRK also works on that, but it's a little too wide at the nose and a little too soft so I got some saddle sores touring on it.
SMP Plus seems to work on tourer, the nose is quite a bit wider so it feels like I'm sitting on the nose more.A TRK does NOT work on very upright Dutch bike for very long. I tried touring NL and after a day of 50 miles I only managed 30 the next day and had to buy another saddle. The Martin should work for that.
Short distances it's OK though.

£75 posted to your door RM signed for and insured (as I'm in Belfast)
If interested send me a PM and I will take piccies for you. It's in good condition no scruffs on leather, the stitching is a little grayish by now though.

Do you have a link to that chinese copy?
-
• #1019
bought it over a year ago, the seller aint active anymore on aliexpress. If you search for "carbon saddle" and browse a few pages you'll come across multiple instances of the same saddle with slight variations in colour finish etc

I did that a few days ago and it seems there are some lightly padded copies knocking about on there now. I had a couple of full carbon copies, one got nicked and I'll be replacing it with one of those so I'll report back when I do.
@kjlem I toured 4000k on a SMP extra on a surly cross check with positive rise stem at the top of a huge spacer stack, it was brilliant. It was pointed pretty nose-up due to the upright riding position so looked grim but it's a price worth paying for me. -
• #1021
Thanks for your reply. Wasnt the extra too soft for long distances?
-
• #1022
Does anyone have a Chinese special smp they want to sell? Can't quite face the 30-50 day wait on aliexpress
-
• #1023
Forma quite a bit more give than a composite. Probably my preferred smp for longer rides.
-
• #1024
Etxeondo shorts are smp friendly, no 'tenting' into intimate regions, and are fab in general - Orhi ones are my favourite. Giordana work well too.

Very interested in getting an smp because of... circulatory problems... but don't know anybody with one and don't want to just splash out now on a new one. Anybody have any links (beside the one on the previous page) for an aliexpress copy?
The Dynamic (padded version of the Forma) felt better than the Evolution (a padded version of the Composit).
I have yet to try the Forma.
