Any advice on SDS drills? I want something for masonry work (and maybe chiseling) as my typical Bosch mains drill is a bit slow. I assume I'll be going with mains powered. Makita? Or does it not matter much these days?

My corded DeWalt has been incredibly good value given how hard it's been used, I paid ~£150 from Screwfix I think, it's my most used powertool.

Depends how much it's going to be used. Price seems to determine life span. The £50 Titan 5kg I got from Screwfix seems fine and has battered through anything I have tried so far, but I wouldn't see it lasting more than a week if used professionally.

Jesus, that things not going anywhere soon.

Yes, I suspect I could drive into it and it wouldnt budge. The ground level is coming up level with the top of the wall on the far side so wanted to make sure it was rock solid.

For a first go, that's looking really very good.

You can buy them at £1 per meter off ebay.
You'll need to learn how to make a monkey fist knot, if you have a spare 5 minutes and access to youtube.

@Tenderloin - had you down as much older. You're the same age as me but with a house!
Did you ply board the stairs yourself or get a carpenter in? Playing with the idea myself but not sure what the labour cost will be....

Ah ok - well yeah. I'm getting stick from the missus as already looking for the next place :)
I did the stairs myself, as the chippy we got in was pretty cheap and not that neat. The ply floor looks good but there are a few things I would do differently that would make it look even better.
It's fucking cheap way of covering a floor and I think it looks really nice.

Is there a more effective hair trap than this kind of thing:
I'd like to spend less of my life cleaning smelly hair out to make my shower drain properly.

There are more attractive versions but they all suffer the same fate. A drill will collect the hair in a nice neat ball and from a distance

I don't think my girlfriend will be happy if I bic her head, but I'm willing to risk it.

She cleans it out every other time, I'm sure she probably feels the same as I do about the job.

Flat is not a keeper and will be selling in a year or so
If you're only there for a year, can't you just tolerate the doors?

Has anyone had experience with triple glazed uPVC sash windows? Any recommendations on companies and installers? Does triple glazing have a big effect over double glazing for noise reduction? I've read conflicting reports...looking at replacing 2 windows 900mm x 1300mm - rough cost?!
-
• #8024
I'd recommend fibreglass over uPVC.

What makes you say that?
Holy shit. I'd hate to think what it could do to a small child or baby then....
