  • Indeed, I'm in Ascot - are you in Reading

  • it's become my "reference build"

    Good luck with that...

Let me know once you've got the frame sorted (sounds exciting), I've got bullhorns, bar-end levers, inline posts etc, you can have for the cost of postage.

  • Fantastic - thanks very much, sounds great.

  • Thought as much - I recall seeing a picture of you looking particularly aero at Palmer

  • Seatstay without epoxy filler...
    Not fresh.
    Wounded but not beaten.

  • That looks pretty serious! I'd be wary of other areas just being made of paper mache after discovering that.

  • yep, I'll definitely be stripping all the paint and giving it a thorough inspection before going any further!

  • I've spent the last few days looking at everything around me in the hope of finding a donor bit of steel for repairing the stays...
I ended up chopping a 2" length of thin wall mild steel tube from the end of my kitchen broom!
I've jigged it with a jubilee clip ready for brazing, but I'm off for my holidays now so it'll have to wait.
Meanwhile here's a lickle snap of the mega-shed funded by the sale of my collection privee (Dave Lloyd, Bob Jackson, Chas Roberts) back in the spring...

    Broomstick jigged and ready.

  • I'd leave it like that.....! Maybe elastic bands would be better, to give a little vertical compliance? :0)
    Excellent bit of bodgery.

  • Funny you should say that - I was wondering whether lashings of aluminium tape might be enough to not need any welding!

  • You must have seen the GT thread. Just drill loads of holes in it and bolt everything together.

  • That GT thread......

An indirect form of self-harm no?

  • Broomstick repair updates?

  • do you plan to do the same on your Gazelle?

  • What an epic thread. What happened to the broom frame?

  • Good question - I had a go and struggled with flux, then the boss got poked off with all my junk in the lab so I brought it home with broom metal tacked in place and it's in the corner of my shed gathering dust...
Since then I've been sorting out my new workshop - not far off completion now so I'll be resurrecting this thread sometime soon with a few other projects planned for the summer.

Glad you're enjoying the thread, If you enjoy this sort of silliness and have any quiet moments, my L'eroica Rat thread is also mildly amusing.

  • Workshop still a bombsite but I've not let that stop me acquiring a new project....
    Picked this up last night.

  • Here are the sellers photos - it's quite attractive in the flesh...

  • This is good news

  • I think so too, it's been too long since I last built anything!
This will be an exercise in ratbike values - quick cheap and rad.
Longer term I'll look at making it a bit more period-correct but I really need to see it moving first!

  • Ha! I was watching that, but have too many things taking up my time right now

  • Strongrat aka bobrat v2?
