  • I'd rather admit I was an Ashley Madison subscriber than a Luffguss supporter......

  • Predominantly from one IP.

And low enough in HTTP requests per second to fly just under the CloudFlare automated detection radar, but enough to eventually overwhelm these servers.

There was a rehearsal first, but that was nearly all cached and didn't affect us at all. Then there was the attack itself.

Attachment shows rehearsal and then the attack.

  • I've now disabled CloudFlare's "I'm Under Attack" mode.

Instead I'm caching better. Which means that if another attack comes they'll be hitting CloudFlare servers and getting cached files, rather than getting through to me.

  • Ha, I finally installed Windows 10 last night and was very confused that it seemed to be blocking lfgss. Now it makes more sense.

  • Any idea why?

Our rapier wit was too much for them.

  • Someone from the football thread, or someone missing rep, or chevrons...

or Lynchman coming back from the dead to haunt us.

  • Oh, we're blue now?

  • Or purple?

  • I'm colour blind, I'm not sure what it is.

But it's more blueish and less grey.

I thought I'd try it out.

  • I'm not colour blind.

    It's not very nice.

    Sorry.

  • Oh, what about now?

  • I like it, it contrasts the LFGSS nicely.

  • Well this one is more navy.

It's the 4th colour I've tried this morning.

  • Quite nice. Are you trying to recreate the skinsuit look?

  • Aren't 'mods' the thing with kids these days. Get some people to knock up custom skins, ... , profit.

  • I keep thinking my screens fucked and playing with the colour settings. I should have realised VB was pissing about with things.

  • If this was a (D)DOS attack, I'm a little disappointed it wasn't a DAS attack. (I don't actually have any idea what kind of attack it was, or what kind of attacks exist.)

  • The slightly darker shade is better but I'm still not sure. Maybe I just don't like change! :)

The previous one clashed with the logo colour a little too much. This one still jars with the yellow used on sticky threads and 'new' tags but only slightly.

  • I like it

  • Wayne defined a few colours in the original palette for LFGSS, the light blue on the logo, a navy, a blue mid-way between the two, a dark grey, and a near black.

We've used the dark grey as the background, and @6pt designed the skinsuit colours maybe without realising he's picked almost exactly the same colours as Wayne (because I'm not sure I gave Tom all of the colours).

I tried the other colours as the background, but they never quite worked to the same effect as either the skinsuit or the other elements that Wayne had knocked up (various logo files, mocks of how the forum might look, etc).

Basically... the blues were too blue, too vivid, when on a large screen.

This morning I got an itch, thinking that I should try and get closer to the original idea for the background, which was a blue... and that I should really just experiment and see what works, around the spot where the blue exists... but adding more greys, to reduce the impact of what is quite a bright navy otherwise.

  • I like it. Although I did think something was wrong with my phone when I checked earlier. It looks nice on a proper screen.

  • Still not sure the blue works on a large screen, let me show you a screen shot to show what I mean ... ;p

I think it could work, more navy than purple is an improvement I think. Also think the lighter shade needs to be a bit less blue (on the right, was light grey)

  • Here's the original original palette from Wayne... back in 2011.

I can't find an image of the palette from 2012 which was the one that was finally used for the wordmark, but it got rid of the muddier light blue, introduced a near-navy, and then a midpoint blue.

That's achieved as an 80% opacity white layer over whatever the background colour is.

The prior one was grey because the background was grey.

  • Oh hurm. Think it looks too Magenta-y (from a print background), so I guess slightly too much red in the blue RGB? But generally tints of blue tend to be quite hard to make nice
