My ex used to swear by the old guy in Bond St tube station. Don't know if he's still there though.
Otherwise I used a place on Compton Street (near Old Street x Clarkenwell) who did glass well and do a lot of trophies.

@bfixed If you're still looking for an engraver I used the one linked below for the same purpose - engraving a lovely wedding congrats message onto the blade of a gnarley black steel Gerber machete I bought my best bud (and his new wife). He was more pleased with it than she was...
They did a good job and it wasn't too dear.

slightly off topic but somewhat related. i've bought a knife for a mate as a wedding gift and spent more than I'd ever for myself, now need to get it engraved, i've googled and there are lots of places, i just can't afford to get it wrong though...wondering if anyone can recommend an engraver?
