  • Grassy and flat indeed. File!

  • I'm riding singlespeed, I'll try and remember it's flat as I slog up those drags on the last lap.

  • @jammy @andyp - thanks, very helpful.

My options are 30c Michelin mud 2

Or a schwalbe Sammy slick 35c

    Which would you lean towards?

  • The Schwalbes. Definitely.

  • Superb, thanks.

  • Are the schwalbes wired or foldable? Performance or Evo? If the wired or performance I'd run with the muds, paradoxically

  • They are the wired ones.. what's would be the reason instead for going with the michelins?

  • Mud2 is a fairly supple tyre, some of the cheaper Scwalbe versions look like their supple pricier Scwalbe siblings but can be heavy and stiff. Noticeably slower than a supple tyre at low cx pressures (40psi) but ideal on gravel at higher pressures (60psi).

Personally, I'd ride the Schwalbe regardless and save the mud2 for slightly more intermediate conditions where you will need the grip. But then I'm fat and slow so a tyre ain't gonna slow me much.

  • They are utter shit, whereas the mud iis a great tyre.

I rode them (tubeless, 25psi) on a very dry, hot course at Milton Keynes - worked very well.

If i make it on Thursday I'll be on Racing Ralph evos which will probably get me through 90% of the season, again.

  • Im am unfit idiot who's done a couple of incredibly cross's in the past - is everyone going to destroy/hate me if I do this London Summer Series race tomorrow?

Lack of beer handups already causing second thoughts tbf.

  • is everyone going to destroy/hate me if I do this London Summer Series race tomorrow?

No - just don't get heatstroke!

  • You'll be in good company!

  • Aha, thanks for the reassurance.

Luckily I'm already taking on fluids in advance. Lager admittedly, but hey.

  • Come along. I think of all cycling disciplines, cross is the most accessible, so anyone who fancies giving it a go should come along. Please.

  • I second that - go, it's brilliant

  • This is generally the message I always hear, but the photos you see are often skin suit central.

Anyway, sounds good - I'm in!

  • They don't often photograph the fat fuckers at the back. Which is good because I'm camera shy.

  • To be fair, a fat fucker in a skinsuit is a strong look.

  • That was the day my skin suit died. RIP skinsuit.

  • I'm excite. spent 30 minutes riding round the woods on Monday night as my 'CX' training and now I'm ready for this evening. I'll be the guy on the silver caadx hanging off the back...

  • I'll be just behind you on my vile green P-X London Road. Might wear my LFGSS jersey if it fits, but I'm definitely fat at the mo, so probably not.

  • Don't suppose anyone is driving to this from north, or east? Will chip in £££/snacks. Its a fair old trek from Walthamstow on a singlespeed!

  • Overground to west croydon, then it's a 3 mile ride.
