Bump. Anyone else going?

Love to, just when there's not another 5000 riders clogging up the roads.

I know what you're saying. But my colleagues are doing it and it should be a laugh. Also works nicely because I need to be in the Alps a day after for a mountain bike trip with some mates, so...
But I'm having a nightmare figuring out how to get myself and my bike from London to Megeve.

Ride there.

Not likely. Would love to ride there, if I had the time. And also if I could use a more sensible bike. Don't fancy 800 miles on a road bike with a backpack full of kit.

How'd you get on? I'd been told that final descent wasn't timed (by the woman who gave me my bib number), so I stopped as though I'd finished at the last summit and enjoyed the scenery for 20 mins before descending into Morzine. Then I found out that wasn't the case. Annoying.
Good day though. Hard in the heat.

Well, it was great fun until some cunt swerved in front of me on the Col de Columbiane Descent. Given the choice of hitting him and taking down about 10 riders around me, I had to go into a storm drain on the outside of a bend, lock up and then hit a stone wall at about 65kph. Amazingly I got away with road rash and bruises, but I had to ride the remaining 70km with 1 brake and a broken handlebar.

The mavic mechanics did a great job of holding it together

Shit. You're ok though? I saw a few crashes - the aftermath, at least. I'll admit I was descending "enthusiastically" but there were a few wobbly and inexperienced riders making things a little hairy.

I bit sore and skinless but ok compared to the others further down that descent! It was definitely the biggest crash I've had. I'm just so lucky that I ended up on the side of the road so others didn't hit me. I shudder to think what 10 or so bike wheels at 65kph would have felt like. We managed to finish by our average speed was totally crap.

Bravo for finishing Mike! My heart stopped when i saw you crashed, bloody hell. Apart from that and slight gear mechanical from my side, it was a brilliant ride. So beauty much scenic on climbs and descents.....I wanna go back to the mountains :(
