thanks!
currently trying to figure out the easiest and cleanest way to extend that rear guard all the way down to bb. Maybe 2nd hand / surplus guard chopped and gorilla taped to the rear guard and seat tube.

looks ace, what are the bars and how to you rate the guards?
-
• #109054
bars are 44wide cowbell 2's. Havent had any chance to try the guards yet! they seem quite rigid though so looking forward to trying them

Update:
I totally forgot about the designer Mauro Sannino when I ordered parts that it's an Italian bike made by Sannino or Corratec of Germany so I was shocked when I tried to install British Ultra Torque BB cups it just went straight in. I will have the thread chased at LBS and have Italian cups installed. The construction of frame is not very meticulous that there are many unfinished details inside the frame. The seat tube was not round inside from heat and also there are ends of downtube and chainstays sticking into BB shell. Other Corratec Formula owners, please let me know if you noticed the same issues.
Also 12-25T 10 speed cassette was a problem - the 12T is a tad too large, the non-stepped (the teeth without ramps) bit scratches inside the chainstay a little. I need to use wooden mallet to gently dent that bit rather than filing. The previous owner used 11T or perhaps 8 or 9 speed cogs apparently to avoid this but there are many scratches from chain rubbing against inside chainstay so I am not that optimistic.
Perhaps it's very different experience from buying a new , more accommodating modern frame online today even affordable ones from Planet X or Surly or something.

Update!
So I spent last two weeks trying to make the bloody Alfne shift with even bloodier Gevenalle shifter. After I took it across the city to the apparent IGH top dog mechanic round my parts, it finally worked.
Loaded like pictured, with full water bottles and my usual work bag, it weights and rides like a tank, but I love it - all I can hear is the tires against the ground :) Alfine shifts pretty crisp, apart maybe from 4 < - > 5 shifts, which have the longest pull, and I don't put the lever all the way across. Happy with my new CX77 brakes as well, surprisingly, stop much better than BB7s, but maybe it was just a setup issue.

Really regretting taking this apart.!
I now need to wait for this to arrive,
"Shimano service tool TL-ST01 (p/n Y-130 03000)"
-
• #109068
comparatively to those old shimano, Sram shifters are a piece of piss to service. they're so hard
-
• #109069
I can vouch for that.!
I bought the pair "Dura Ace 7700" on Ebay about six months ago, but hadn't got around to trying them until now, only to find that both don't shift properly. -

good luck!

9 speed newish derailleur (tiagra), 7 speed cassette (HG50) and a 3/32 7spd chain.
Will that chain work on the rear?
Edit*
Read what Ed wrote. No tiagra, but maybe a 600 tricolor. Still - will it work?
-
• #109072
Claris is also an option.

• #109073
There's so many rad builds going on that it's hard to keep track of who's building what!
-
• #109074
will it work?
7-speed chain might run cleanly through 8- or 9-speed jockey cages. In many cases, 9/10/11-speed chain will actually run fine on "7-speed" chainrings and sprockets, as they are often well under 3/32" true width. If in doubt, measure. There's a reason why a modestly priced digital caliper is near the top of any list of tools to buy.
