Heading down from Scotland for this. First time riding it fixed, looking forward to it.

Back on board for Dynamo. Simultaneously excited and terrified

I've done an equipment test (ridden all of my bikes), and I'll be doing it on the red and white road bike. It's fairly distinctive, looks like this:
Except that's when it was new, and the tyes are now black, the wheels have changed, it will have saddle bag and bar bag, and lights, no Polar HRM but a Garmin instead, etc.
But basically I'll be on that, mostly wearing black Rapha stuff, and bright pink gloves... easy to spot.

Gears?
Bring a big bag as there are rules to be obeyed. He who rideth with gears shalt carryeth all t'beers.
LFGSS, unless it's a bit far and I'm worried about me knees.
-
• #131
Actually it's my knee that led me to gears. My right knee gives me gip, has been twinging and kinda reminding me it's there. Of all my bikes, the one where the knee is silent and says nothing... is the Serotta.
So yeah, gears.
But annoyingly, still mountain gears from doing Bormio and Stelvio last year. I could probably go faster on my 82 gear inches fixed bike.
And beers... hah... whiskey in hip flasks thank you.

Are you going to be on the flamed Raleigh? I'll be on the 16:30 from Norwich of you're travelling down on the Saturday.
-
• #133
That's the plan at the mo. Nice and easy to spot. Trying to find a different crank last-minute so I can keep up with Kate on the flats... Heading down on the Friday evening though

• #134
You riding back?
-
• #135
Nah, tbh I think that extra 40 miles or so would kill me at the moment. Not enough riding this year. Planning on dozing on the beach, going for a swim and then getting picked up.
-
• #136
That sounds idyllic. Tried to find a lift, but failed miserably, so... ¯_(ツ)_/¯
-
• #137
That's a shame. Not enough room in the car to offer you both a lift but if you want to offload some stuff/luggage I could probably take it back for you.
-
• #138
May well take you up on that, thanks!
-
• #139
Thank you Jeanette - you could be very popular in the middle of the night! Maybe you are already!?!?!?
-
• #140
Jesus Christ Mel, I'm Nic, the tall guy with a beard...
-
• #141
Not sure if I can do this :(
Will have to ride somewhere nice on Monday to make up for it.
-
• #142
That would explain everything!
-
• #143
Shame.
The weather is going to perfect, a gentle tailwind the whole way, not too cold, no rain.

Does anyone have a list of food/drink stops, or more importantly know where the couple of open pubs are?

The attitude of abellio re: bikes being banned on Sunday SUCKS. The deregulation of the trains in the name of the free market is a lie - massive demand for bikes on trains (generally up 40% I read somewhere) so let's ban them.
-
• #147
Last year I cycled back to Ipswich and caught a train (nightmare if I recall) so this year the silly sod in me is telling me to carry on all the way home. So if anyone needs company and is happy to hear about my career in spreadsheet management and compliance technology and wants to attempt a return journey then let me know.
-
• #148
Seriously - they're unmissable - you'll find 'em - unavoidable!

they're allowed on the ips - lon route?
yeah, it's the local trains which won't take bikes, which makes some sense as Darsham is hardly setup to accommodate 1000 bike riders into Ipswich.
50 per half hourly train Ips to Lst, which is a lot more than is carried at any other time on any other route I'd guess...
That could be perfect.
Just before the fire station, and could be quieter. And they should have running water for bottles (or at least be selling bottled water).
Added to the map.
