  • @Pifko @rhb yeah Rhb , wearing leggings on the hill, pfft

  • I have 235 and love it. Heart rate is not always perfect but the advantage of always having a HR reading is great. GPS always seems good for me (not in city centre admittedly). Some good apps available also if you're into that sort of thing (long/lat coordinates etc.)

Garmin connect app is a bit sketchy.

  • London good for age closing date was 20th June

edit: ah, new page. juanito got there first

  • That was for both sun & tick protection ;)

  • Chester's meant to be a good one. Abingdon is popular for a fast course, probably sold out but they allow number swaps which you can normally sort out.

  • Bollocks missed gfa date - guess it will be 2018 before I run London then.
Plan is to ease off the ultra events and get some speed back in my legs, so aiming for sub 3 hrs.
Thanks for the heads up re Chester and Abingdon, any others? Want to try and pick off as many as possible as training runs.

  • Kingston Breakfast Run has a marathon option these days, not the most exciting course, but if you're London based pretty easy to get to...

  • Abingdon must have sold out yonks ago... A couple of days after I entered, someone told me that they had spoken to the organisers and there were only 4-5spaces left. This was probably a week after London.

  • you can still get in if you are in the army.

great run from @PhilPub today in the SAL 3000m.

What on earth is that chained ultra?

  • What on earth is that chained ultra?

130miles attached to another person, pairs drawn randomly just before start.

  • Cheers skipper. Pleased with 9:19.0, just 1.5 secs outside my PB with a mild cold and a bit of a breeze, so I still need to find another race to have a go at that.
Some good performances all round yesterday, including @juanito's 57 secs split in the 400 relays, not long after getting through the barriers and water jumps of the steeplechase.

I might have another go at my 5k PB on Tuesday at the Veterans AC 5k champs in Battersea Park, if the cold's cleared up and the pollen count's not too high.

  • Tough run today overslept so 7am pre-brekkie start was missed. 11am post brekkie meant heat, crowds and dogs. Was ok for first hour but hr crept up from there and slightest need to do owt like avoid a dog would put it up 15beats in second hour.

  • Ran* up a couple of hills before work. Barely awake now.

    '* walked, crawled

  • nice place for a pre-work run!

A pyramid at track last night has left me feeling pretty leggy today. Struggled to hold a nominal 5k pace.

just planning next weeks Chamonix based trail running and TdF watching now. If anyone has any running route tips they'd be appreciated. there's a vertical km route that looks quite interesting.

  • Average gradient of 31%.

    That'll be...fun?

  • I'm in central Manchester for a couple of days and want to go for a 10 - 12km run early tomorrow morning. Anywhere good for running around here? Or should I just pick a direction and run for 5km then turn back?

  • I've never found anywhere particularly good in the centre of Manc - just run up and down the canal.

  • Cheers. Last time I walked down the canal in Manchester I went under a bridge and stumbled upon a what was either a drug deal, gay pick up point or I must have been seconds away from being killed and dumped in the river. Hopefully 6am in the morning things will be a bit quieter.

  • Or, you were seconds from a blow job and a wrap of brown - talk about glass half empty...

  • What @kl said.

If you do hit the canal East from Picadilly would take you towards Velodrome with trails in Clayton Vale.

Else head to Old Trafford from Deansgate Locks.

Both runs would be out n back and avoid the drug/pickup spots.

There's nice running along Mersey Valley near Sale Waterpark but you'd do your 10k just getting out there and back.

  • Was great, tough too on back of double day yesterday but was needed.

    Enjoy Chamonix.

  • Cheers man.

After kl's wise words I might just do laps of the bridges/canals and hope for the best. I'll either report back tomorrow or please call my wife etc

  • Actually thought up a simple loop, pick up Rochdale Canal in Ancoats (across Rd from Go Outdoors)

Run up Canal Path to Alan Turing Way (ATW)

Head right on ATW then into Phillips Park (before Etihad)

Cut thru park to reach old Arches with mtb skills track by them. Cross rd to velodrome, cut thru foyer if after 7.30am, else run around Velodrome outside.

Cross bridge out of other car park near Asda then u-turn & thrn left onto ashton canal path and follow this under ATW back to Picadilly.

If that works hope you enjoy!

  • P.s. else find Jutland St nr picadilly and do hill reps
