  • The 5 live commentators were just questioning whether the 12 second gain was worth the effort.

    Surely 12 seconds is always worth a push? I know tours have been won by big margins recently but 12 seconds is a decent chunk to take from a stage where you were just expecting to maintain.

  • I think its the effort required of Froome to gain that 12 seconds, which could have been saved and put to better effect on a TT or mountain finish

  • You've got to factor in the psychological benefits too, Quintana will be wondering where Froome is going to attack him next.

  • The psychological advantage of stuffing your opponents with clever and powerful riding is probably worth more than the time he took. I expect he will still crush today's stage.
