Genuine question, was the remain campaign with ~16m therefore the second largest mandate for anything ever in the uk?

Presumably the largest mandate ever for something that wont happen, as well. Unless we manage to drag our feet.

And I'm not sure how anyone could argue with that the Conservatives hold a mandate to negotiate the terms of Brexit, something that was clearly not on the cards at the time of the GE
