• Hi all,

Have item on sale and within a short then anticipated time frame, i received the message below.

"Great! please consider it sold as i am willing to pay your full asking price because i need to buy it for my cousin asap, i have read through the advert and i'm totally satisfied with it,sadly i would not be able to come personally to collect due to my hearing loss and I'm just recovering from heart surgery so I'm home-bound.
I would appreciate if you email me with more photos (if available) since i'm unable to see it in person.
I have a courier agent that would help me to pick it up at your preferred location after you have received your money and i'll pay you via PayPal today."

... What could go wrong, right? O_O

Has anyone experienced similar stories, followed by no payment / troubled sell ?

    Any advice or stories appreciated!

  • It's been mentioned previously, it's likely a scam.

Buyer will send a courier then claim they've not received it. Paypal will ask you for proof of postage which you won't have because it was the seller that arranged the courier. Buyer gets refunded and keeps item.

  • That is a very good point!

Thanks M_V, i had not previously thought about that. The story put me on edge already, and hearing that.. I will see how far he wants to take me on this but avoid at all costs.

"Paul Miller" to any concerned parties.

  • #UPDATE.

Mr Miller has just deleted his email account altogether.

Thank you for the community support.

  • Any message out of the blue that starts with ''Great!'' I would just disregard. Add to that the obvious, overly intricate B.S. backstory - just ignore and block them in future.

  • How long is reasonable to wait for something to be marked as posted ? I bought a hub at a buy it now price on the 7th. There has been no reply to a message I sent on the 10th either.

The seller has good feedback for both buying and selling and for selling stuff in the last few months too.

How long before ebay would get involved ?

  • Use the item not received through the resolution center. Ebay has target times before they take action.

I wait a week before following up, once a seller plain forgot

  • Ok, yeah I had seen that but disregarded it as it was referring to the estimated delivery data, but seeing as the item hadn't even made it into the post yet I thought it didn't apply.

    Cheers

  • I am located in Vienna and won an ebay auction for a bike located in Nottingham. Ebay description says delivery within UK is possible. Seller tells me he set it up for collection only and sends me the enclosed screenshot.
Not sure I believe him. Why would ebay tell me shipping within UK is possible if he set it up for collection only?

Is there a parcel service that will pickup an unboxed bike and deliver within UK?

  • I don't know about what eBay told you, but you can't force him to ship it and he's obviously unwilling to do that.

I don't know of anyone who would collect an unboxed bike.

Perhaps try the Nottingham sub-forum and ask if anyone would be prepared to help you out?

  • There are loads of couriers that will collect and deliver unboxed/unwrapped within The UK. Message me if you need a few details.

  • Is there any other way (besides Paypal) of paying someone online for something bought on Ebay that will offer some form of buyer protection/security?

  • Whats wrong with PP?

  • Paying with a credit card?

  • Whats wrong with PP?

This, you don't even need an account to pay through them with your card I think.

  • Okay I have a good story for you all. Just received a wheel shaped box and a very large heavy box which I have no clue could be. I take a closer look and both parcels are from the same sender. Open the wheel box to find the trispoke I ordered on eBay. I then started on the second to find a pale pink cabinet inside which I very clearly did not buy... Messaged the seller just now but it seems either him or parcelforce have royally fucked up

  • I rarely use eBay, but I've been watching an item for a couple of days, wondering whether to jump the queue and "buy it now", or take my luck in the auction.

Suddenly, I checked today and the BIN option has vanished. Is this because the item has now exceeded the reserve price in the auction (and thus the auction is 'live') or did the seller just remove the BIN option?

  • If there was a reserve on it, once the amount goes over that, the buy it now is removed. Similarly, in a normal auction with a buy it now, once 1 person bids, the buy it now option is automatically removed

  • Ah shame, I was just about to buy it because (a) I'm impatient and (b) the local TT league is getting tight and I can't wait for the #marginalgainz. I'll have to wait and get outbid now - the way things are going I think it'll sell for more than the BIN price.

  • Hi all,
Not sure if this has come up in this thread before but what is the deal with cheap no name Alu bikes on Ebay. they seem suspect for the price. I've read about cheap Chinese frames, but the bikes I found are located in London, or is that just a lie? seller feedback seems positive...

  • How cheap? Second hand branded alu bikes are absurdly cheap, and you have at least some guarantee of quality. For fixed/track you can get used Pre Cursa frameset for <100 beans.

  • Honestly, stay away. Parts are junk. Get second hand parts on here, and a new frameset if you really want. I've seen complete Pre Cursas go on ebay for £200 second hand. At this price, you're really not going to get a good bike new.

  • Every pre cursa I've seen has been ~£400 but tbh all I'm looking for is something light for commuting.

  • I bought a saddle on eBay a month ago and only just recently realised that it hasn't turned up. Messaged the guy telling him this and he's basically just replied saying why have you waited so long to tell me, he no longer has the postage reciept and that because he offered postage as free and i didn't ask for tracked and signed it's some how my fault.

What rights do I have for claiming the money back?
