The more I ease into my Mr Average Suburban White Male lifestyle the more I feel like the key to happiness is being comfortable with the stereotype that society fits you into. In that sense Mr Artisanal Log Cabin Adventure Cyclist is winning. Him inserting a tanning salon into his stereotype maybe isn't so different from me removing a car from mine. Just a little tweak that reassures you that you still make your own decisions, even if you are indistinguishable from others of your kind in most ways.
Edit - It seems I've also added pseudo-intellectual musings on bike forums to my personal identity.
