I'm pretty sure he said that and also that even the 'big gear' wasn't big enough and he could have done with bigger. IIRC. (edit - what @Velocio said)
That graphic is interesting. Seems Cav's sprint was pretty much perfect, but interesting that McLay peaked only slightly before him and at almost exactly the same speed (if actually a tiny tiny bit faster).
Bigger.
For Cav's peak speed on 53-11 then he would need to be spinning at 122rpm. Not sure how stable that would be on a road sprint. 110rpm would need 58-11.
You don't want to choose too big a gear because you don't want to be grinding to the line. Don't want to small either because you'll loose the ability to kick.
