Steel makes sense for the reason you said, but from all the pics* I can't see when you'd ever want to wear the steel bracelet. Where as switching between a black nato and brown leather seems likely.
That said nice Brown straps are easy to find. A good matching steel bracelet less so.

Obviously I'm going to fit a Zulu, how could you even question that?
On the rare occasion I might fancy a change, leather or steel? I think the Zulu gives a similar vibe/look to the leather so steel would be the bigger change.
