I had a Microplane rotary which went to pot in 2 months :/
The steel was fine btw, but the plastic holding the steel grater drum structure in it's cage broke. Not impressed.
I just looked again and they have a new design that may last better (it avoids torque on the bit that broke) so I'll give them another chance unless I can find local. Tx :)
Microplanes all day long. OK, yes, not rotary and USA made, but I've two (one for hard cheeses, one for cheddary consistency cheeses) and they've been faultless for five years. Easy to clean, razor sharp and flat for storage. Unless you are grating industrial quantities of cheese it would be the only choice for me.
