yea I guess that adds some leverage as the cable is connected higher on the fd arm

exactly. unsure why shimano say not to do it, surely it depends on the frame

You said it, the frame tend to make the biggest difference, some frame have poor shifting because of the way the derailleur was mounted as well as th cable entry.

TLDR; Shimano is correct, just didn't take in account of some frame being made differently (like the CAAD10).
