• I have a 98 Mx leader which currently has an Campag Athena cartridge BB with an Italian thread.
I am considering fitting a slightly more modern groupset from 2003 DA 7800.
Are there any issues I should be aware of with the chainset and BB -For instance Will the BB fit or do I need to be aware of any pitfalls fitting non period groupset to the frame.
    Thanks very much

  • Me again, ;-)

7800 DA already came with external BB cups so the axle width is fixed. No issues to be expected there (chain line and things). Rear triangle on end nineties frames should be 130 mm so "modern" wheels will fit without any problem.

Don't think you will have troubles finishing it "modern".

  • Campag Athena cartridge BB

    That'll be 111mm.

Far easier to choose your cranks and buy a BB to suit, rather than the other way around.

DA 7800 uses external cups, rather than an internal BB like the Athena you have: two completely different systems: http://www.bikeradar.com/gear/article/complete-guide-to-bottom-brackets-36660/
