yep, its the final week of IM training, so a decent chunk of cycling and swimming as well, feeling pretty strong but tired and ready to taper, i finish the week with a 50 mile time trial, which i cant see being my best performance ever!

Enjoy the taper Ed, sounds like you're ready for it.
Delighted to see that @juanito still knows how to run quickly. You just need to bring the finish line forward a bit. ;) Winner of the club 800m last night in a blistering PB 2:05.9. I was on finish line officiating duties, that's far too short a race for my liking.

Thanks. I'll be doing 100m in a few years at this rate.

Having wimped out last night I'm pretty sure I'll man up for the 1,500m so I look forward to getting whupped in that.
VO2 max test done. No results yet but I did manage to out-cycle the test. Started on 100W, 80 rpm, and went up in 25W increments each minute, till I managed 500W for a minute, then asked to stop. Maybe I was breathing hard enough to get the results they're looking for, and was certainly working hard, but I wasn't exactly dying. Refuelled with a "mega breakfast" at a delightful Gillingham High St eatery.

Good luck half marathoners!

How did it all go?
I took my brother to 20.5 in sub 3 pace but he faded from there. Course was a bit dull but made up for by a cracking and supportive atmosphere amongst supporters and spectators. I have had a very weird delayed hunger from it. Only really kicking in now.

That wasn't the Midnight Marathon was it?
I was talking to someone that was pacing their brother round but he faded a bit.
Dog called Humphrey? -
• #13785
Yes! That's me, but fortunately not my dog. Tritons?
-
• #13786
Small world.
Yep, that'd be me in the Tritons vest, supporting fellow Triton James and mate Greg. Greg was ideally hoping for sub 3 too but faded over the last 10k after doing ~1.27 for the first half. Finished 5th in the end in 3.08. To be fair to him, he only had 10 days prep, and it's still cracking work for a first road marathon. -

Went really well. Got a new humble PB, 1:58:16 which although isn't breaking any landspeed records is 8 minutes faster than my previous. Have also learnt a few lessons:
- The shoe lacing technique @HatBeard taught me is really effective for keeping your toes away from the toe box. I was losing toenails prior to this.
- I still need better socks, they feel rough against my skin after 5ish miles.
- I'm not fussy about gel flavours and I'm sure they all contain pretty much the same thing nutrient wise. I did discover that I prefer the gels I got from @HatBeard previously as something to do with the packaging made them easier to drink. couldn't work it out and have no clue what brand they were.

Running watch advice needed. I need to replace my Garmin Forerunner 410. I'm thinking either a Forerunner 230 or 235 (so I don't have to worry about heart monitor, although not that accurate). Any other recommendations, stern warnings etc?

Up bright and breezy this morning for my first half marathon distance (20km)
I'm relatively new to running, maybe about a year of doing it, and 8 months of doing it seriously.
Managed to do the 20km in 1 hour 56 mins and took in 2 of Edinburgh's hills, the Braids and Arthur's Seat.
Sorry if this is a boring post to some, but I'm particularly chuffed with myself. My ankles however, are not.

congratulations, looks lovely.

Great post! Running is the bomb. Not sure what advice I can give for your ankles.

Just tried out my first ice bath as well. Hopefully that will take away some of the sting away from my ankles.

I've got the 230. It's the only running watch I've ever had so I have nothing to compare it to, but I like it. Does everything I need (current pace, average pace, intervals). Had it for a couple of years and still working well. Occasionally a bit dodge picking up satellites around tall buildings, but seems more reliable overall than other watches my friends have.

I have a forerunner 220, which is vastly superior to the 110 I used to have. You can get them pretty cheaply on various websites at the moment as well.
Running round Arthur's Seat is fun, running over it is a bit more challenging! I know some very good fellrunners who do pretty much all of their training on and around Salisbury Crags and Arthur's Seat.
re. socks, I am a big fan of inov8 socks, just single layer but very comfortable.
@duncs 3:08 is excellent for a first road marathon. 10 days prep really isn't much. Is Abingdon the next on the cards.

Been up in E'burgh with work a bit recently - running up Arthur's Seat and down the back to Duddington Loch for a swim in the snow is a fine way to finish the working day.

must be jogging, no matter how fast they are

ffs
Reasons for running fully clothed in July:
1 - you're doing Marathon Des Sables next week
2 - that's it -

Hi all, any London qualifier marathons left this year that still have places available?
-
• #13800
What qualifying time are you looking for?
Any UKA accredited marathon will do for the championship start, sub 2:45.
The London GFA entry shut on June 20th.
How's the running every day going @Dammit?
congrats @Steves that's a solid time.
90k on top of other training i assume @Sainsburys_Ed ? things are looking good.
