Could a puncheur make an escape at km 8? Looks like 7-8% for about 1km.

9 minutes alone afterwards is a struggle.

True, but if it takes some of the sprint trains a while to get organised after that ramp, and say someone like Cummings makes a break for it and puts out 400+ watts for 10 minutes, they might make it.
Will make a bit of a change from the Cav, Sagan, Greipel and Kittle show.
