The newer generation is in a Polartec Powershield Pro; it's a higher performing membrane in terms of breathability, but forfeits slightly on stretch. The DWR will be more durable/effective because of less stretch. So yes, there is a difference, but (in my opinion) they are both great jackets - sorry if this isn't a definitive answer!
