  • Am I right I thinking you go get your number the day before at the excel? Need to read over those emails again.

Would it be possible to just join in around tower bridge I wonder... if somewhat bad manners. I live near it. Can't be arsed going all the way out to Stratford just to come back again.

  • ^ yes seriously considering this now after reading a few rider experiences from previous years. Don't fancy milling around the Olympic area for an hour waiting for my wave green light. I'm already feeling mega guilt for leaving the two young kids with my partner all day and would prefer to trim down the time where possible. Advice welcome please...

  • You won't find it difficult to join the course, but (if it matters) you won't get an official time. The start chip timing mat is obviously at the start.

  • Surely the time first thing doesn't matter, i'm sure your partner can cope for 1 morning?

You have a place just do it properly, the atmosphere is really good, by the time you arrive and filter to your start point, there is no milling about.

What's the difference of a few hours?

  • Thanks for the info. The difference of a few hours means quite a lot to my partner! Especially on a weekend when I'm not working (she's looking after a 3 month old as well as a toddler) and she usually welcomes the break from doing things on her own.

  • You can probably jump on wherever you like if you have numbers and stuff, but there isn't that much waiting around at Olympic park, just enough to pop to the loo, and the setting off is pretty cool. And you come down is it the A12 or something? A road you can't/wouldn't normally. Oh, also you can give them your bag at the start and pick it up at the end, is useful...

  • Sorry that was a bit blunt!

If you are unlikely to ride it again in the future I would just go for it, but I can understand if you normally work weekends it makes the few you have off more valuable (I work a fair few myself).

It's an event I didn't think I would enjoy but riding the closed roads is ace, and going to the Olympic Park for a mass start was one of the really enjoyable bits.

  • Doing it wrong boi! You pick what you wear first then your bike! ;)

Cool. We will be hunting these 6am guys down!

  • If you catch me, I'm going to throw tacks to slow you down =p

  • Right, found my email.

I'm on an 8:10 start, from the Pink area, in wave D.

Is there a map of the locations of the different areas?

  • I'm not till 7:42, as I'm taking my brother's place who is recovering from injury and therefore put a conservative time. I'm imagining quite a fight for the first hour or so.

  • Balls. I'm 6.21 and my bro is 7.24. Not really fancying an hour's wait on the side of the A12 before starting properly. Damn his slow time forecast. Will have to see if I can pull some strings to get start times shifted.

  • IME no one really checks at the start. It's just to spread things out over a few hours. There were definitely a few people in the wrong group.

  • Quite a few of my clubmates joined a wave significantly earlier than their allotted times last year and had no problems.

  • I rode most of the course today and there are some reeaalyyy dodgy sections with the road in a terrible state but looks like the council will be sorting as everything had been spray painted with orange paint for attention and there were crews out all over the place with temp traffic lights etc.

  • Doesn't the route go down some really busy sections? Have always assumed it'd be hell to do without the road closures.

  • Does anyone know if tcx/gpx files are made available before the ride?

  • Here is a GPX of my Strava route from last year.
Official route starts at Mile 8.5

  • Amazing - thank you

  • 6:14 here Ho....you'd better have a quick start ;)

  • Lol, isn't it easier to be hunter than to be the hunted? ;)

  • Jesus, I'm proper late this year - 08:41! Any with me - Wave Q...

  • Anyone have experience of pulling out of a charity place? I've done my ankle in something proper and I don't think it's going to heal in time...

  • Yeah - I had a bad accident before 2013 and they just deferred my place to 2014.
