Ha, that's a good idea! Messy, but would be interesting to see what's happened (if I can work it out).
The only tools you need to get the lowers off are an allen key and rubber mallet...
Google Reba Service Video or something.
It's probably just hydrolocking - you'll find a load of oil or water floating about the lowers because a seal has gone.
