  • Security for parking on the street. What's essential?

  • anchor point or immovable object.
    biggest chain you can find.
    alarm
silent alarm linked to your phone - if it exists

  • Disk lock with alarm, on front wheel.
Back wheel locked to something solid.
    Alarm (^Like he said).
    Cover.
Park near a light source. Under a streetlamp is way better than in a dark corner.

Honestly though, an alarm is really only any good if you're within earshot of it. Most other people will just tut that someone's alarm is going off, and won't even open their curtains to have a look.

  • I signed on a new bike yesterday. I got to pick the registration number from a list. Is there something the dealer has to do to put this on the MIB database? As I'm trying to get insurance quotes and no one will quote me?! My current company came back with over £9,000 comprehensive?! Admittedly that was online. I'm wondering if it's maybe something the dealer hasn't done yet? Or its because it's a weekend?

  • cover. good call.

  • What's the bike?

  • Off to look at this on Saturday...

    https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/322152377858

Looks pretty minty but what should I be looking for?

  • All the suitcases!

  • Exactly what I'm after.
My parents recently bought a place in france so I'm looking for something to do a bit more European touring with but also to use on the commute.

  • @Markyboy speed triple. Chopped in my street triple whilst there was some value still there

  • @Bad_Science @coppiThat Much obliged. Alarm and chain are already sorted. I'm within earshot for sure, so have some peace of mind on that front. What's a good disc lock that can be carried with?

  • So, unless you're 17, living in Liverpool, park in the street, with 3 total loss claims and 9 points on your licence, there's something wrong with that quote. Call 'em in the morning.

Nice bike, Kuba had one of those one time we went to France. Might have been the time @coppiThat missed the boat, or forgot his ticket, or brought the wrong passport or aftershave...

  • Check your insurance policy small print?
The theft section of mine requires "armoured" chain and garaging at home address between 10 pm and 6 am, so I'd be ok parked on the street during the day but not overnight.

  • Dream biek

  • VTEC yo!

  • Disc lock is very easy to get round. Even alarmed ones.

Chain needs to go through the frame/swing arm. Talk to the people at almax for decent chain and options of how to chain the bike up.

The light one is bollocks seen how quickly a bike get nicked?

  • Areas that won't have been cleaned properly, chain and sprockets, damage to the rads, valve clearance, big job and expensive is the valve clearances 16k as you need special tools to do the vtec valves.

Right Side fairing and nose cone don't match and missing a bar end wieght on that side too. Rad on side with vfrbar end has crushed fins in the rad, fork legs bottoms look marked maybe dirty rust spots on the upper fork stations..wrong colour fairing bolt left lower nose cone and fairing black instead of silver left hand peg and hero blob bolted on to foot rest.

Edit - Sounds like I'm pissing on your chips. I'm not just looked at the photos and that what I could see.

  • No pissing of chips... i'm looking for pointers on the bike.

I'd spotted the paint difference, pitting on the forks and missing bar end and am aware of the upcoming 16k service.

I can't see the radiator fins well enough in the pictures to confirm they're crushed so that may have to be seen in person. I also don't understand your last point on the peg or hero blob.

Are we assuming this has been crashed at some point?

  • Cover, biggest chain you can afford and a disk lock. A few burly blokes with scaffold poles can still whip it into a van so chaining to a ground anchor or lamp post etc is best.

I use an Oxford storm cover - http://www.oxford-shop.co.uk/item3714.htm
Pragmasis lock and chain - http://securityforbikes.com/proddetail.php?prod=P19-x.x-SS65CS
    Abus disc lock - https://www.mcaleicester.co.uk/accessories/security/disc-locks/abus-a6-disc-lock/

  • Had my renewal quote through and seemed a little high, so I called and cancelled (expecting hoops and dramas) 30 seconds later I have no insurance after the 18th.
Comp the market turned up an MCE quote, with their breakdown cover, lid and leather cover, courtesy bike, £350 excess (compulsory only), fully comp for £234 (about £200 cheaper than my existing)
    That's for 10k miles a year.
Only had my licence 12months (next week) hoping it drops by the same amount next year...

  • That's cheap.

Where are you parking it and what is it?

  • 2011 Honda Transalp
Overnight: in a garage, in Essex (where I live)

I thought £240 was cheap but not complaining!

  • The garage will be it then.

Having an MT-07 and parking it on my driveway in Bromley is asking for trouble but even MCE want nearly £900 (6k annually) fully comp and i've had my full license for nearly three years...!

  • Oof 👊
We are thinking about moving and I am insistent on a garage, wife thinks I am being unreasonable, but I think that might prove my point.
