  • So I noticed this crack on the chainstay on my beloved raleigh record. It was covered in mud and behind the crank so I hadn't noticed it for what I presume was while. Its pretty bad...

I also noticed another one on the head tube whilst cleaning it up.

This was all a bit of a shock, I've never had a crack before and never done anything that I would have thought would cause a crack and hence am looking for advice.
So The bike is 501 reynolds, so my thinking was to just take it to a welder (arranged for tomorrow) who could weld it up. I just wanted to know whether there was anything I should know/do as I've never had to deal with a crack before.

TDLR: any advice for welding up cracks?

  • Even though it's not economic to repair, if it's sentimental to you and you can justify spending the money, then go ahead and get it fixed!

In which case, definitely get it fixed properly, not butchered by some torch monkey
