Absolutely. He bargained that we would vote Remain, then he could have become leader of the Tories and contested the next General Election on the basis that he wanted us to leave the EU and would therefore fight for our best interests within Europe (rather like Nixon being able to hold talks with China and Russia on the basis that he was a fervent anti-communist). As it stands, he'd be impotent negotiating deals with Europe, given that he'd have initiated our withdrawal. He needed a patsy, but instead he'd be that very patsy if he won the Tory leadership. Gove does actually want us to leave, so he's not hampered. Similarly, May won't have to lie about wanting to Remain, so she's not hampered either. Let's hope Mat wins the leadership contest.

That's right, but the beauty of politics, especially at this level, is that the underneath perversity generated from the whole can reach a level of unprecedented creativity... they love it... it empower them, it raise the CV. So, we will know only after. But now we can still try with our imagination and see if we can be competitive...:)

Obv. jokes :)
More Brexit voters asking for understanding. Asking me for understanding while NI is going to be financially fucked while Westminster holds the cash, and there are no plans and no guarantees, er no. You should have thought that one through.
If we had remained and people would bitch about an EU wide army I wouldn't deny the issues with that either.

Fwiw I read it as you meant it, not at all like whoever disparaged someone's wife using her appearance a few pages back. (How do you do not sarc on the interwebs)

Prime Minister Michael Gove.
Funny or tragic?
His own father wouldn't help facilitate his son's lies about his business being ruined by the EU, his University professors lined up to testify as to what an arse he is, and he's been the career boot licker for Cameron and then Boris.
I could anticipate the blonde fuck bricking it and scurrying back to the safety of pretending to run something, but I really didn't see anyone standing behind Gove as a credible leader.
Tory contest is currently a line up of the most vile bastards in the party with the exception of Cunt and IDS who are unelectable and don't want to waste the stationery budget. But it's ok, May's backtracked on revoking the Human Rights Act to prove she's a unity candidate, but roll on snoopers charter and TTIP to make up for that.
Dismal....

who can explain that markets are higher than pre-brexit? I thought we'd be in the low 5000's by now?

I'm being quite careful to keep things acceptably vague. It seems to be fairly commonly accepted that the Brexit win was a horrible mistake though. It was supposed to be Boris positioning himself as the gallant loser who isn't afraid to have the courage of his convictions, and set himself up in pole position when Cameron stood down at the end of this term of government.

I dunno, one or more of:
- ftse 100 less exposed to UK market
- Brexit priced in
- downside risks not clarified yet (ie traders think Brexit won't happen in any meaningful sense)
- irrational optimism
- warnings were wrong and there is upside from Brexit when we become 'a normal trading nation open for business with the world'
- any set of reasons that have nothing to do with Brexit
- ftse 100 less exposed to UK market

The FTSE is still way down in terms of £.
Up in points, down in real terms.

Also that the FTSE 100 is flattered by the devaluation of Sterling. i.e. the index stands at nominally the same value but Sterling by which it's measured is now worth considerably less.

Carney is doing his job, flagging possible rate cuts and more quantitative easing.

Reputation counts for a lot with these poshos...
It once counted for a lot here too until Velocio took it away.

Don't worry, I've got files on you all.

Oh God, this is that moment when I say something and realise people may not know that I'm joking.
I do have files, it's called a database that runs the site. I've nothing more. Really.

Must have missed that episode of The Day Today.
Trying to remember where I have seen Gove before...
