Indeed, which is why I find it hard to believe that's what they've done.
I would have thought the existing BB30a 73mm shell would do fine, and they then shunt the spider (or dedicated single ring) out by DS wards 3mm or something.
Both approaches seem to require complete control of your crank system, but the not-quite-BB86 seems goofy, as you say.
If that's the case then it's then really do need a slap for not opting for 386Evo (3mm diff. ffs)
