• I'm loving this thread, but feeling like it's a bit of an echo chamber and we're all reinforcing our current positions.

I quite enjoy cognitive dissonance so how about some arguments about why leave the EU would be a good thing, preferably from the most remain people here.

Does that make sense? I find its difficult to do but can help clarify ones thinking.

  • One possible economic benefit is that devaluing the pound makes our exports more attractive, so should drive demand for UK goods and services.

  • But the only goods we make are Shortcake and Argyle Sweaters, both of which are Scottish.

  • But there are few materials where we are a basic producer,
and the embedded cost of carbon in the power consumed in all the stages of manufacturing is related to the cost of oil, which is priced in US dollars.

Might work for services, but then the demands of corporate lawyers and accountants increase because the price of luxury German cars just went up.

  • True but I already got corrected on that as the price of raw goods also goes up...they guy said it's only services that may benefit.

    Well, which ones? :)

[btw buy those vacuum cleaners with faces they're made in Britain I haz one]

  • Yeah, but we import way more than we export, and we don't manufacture enough for that to change, so on balance we lose.

Or were you just playing that 'bright side' game?
