  • They can be repaired by laser-welding, fortunately. On my one, the fixed bar was removed and re-fitted closer to the centre of the watch as one corner cracked. Not too much to worry about. Just don't smack it off anything.

  • @Aroogah, what model was the Steinhart you ordered? There are quite a few variants on their site.

    Thanks muchly

  • Great, good to know. I imagine it'll last a while longer, seeing as it's been through a war and 40+ years of daily wear so far...

  • @Soul got it right.

It was 15% cheaper when I ordered it pre-referendum. Hopefully you are on the Continent....

  • Thanks both.

Exchange rate was going to be my next question. Bloody brexit!

  • Can get spare mid-cases, so don't worry too much about it.

  • @coppiThat tainted with blue bits....

  • Errr, so my Mum just opened another drawer and found these...

  • Bury the gold. :oP

  • Something for everyone then
    :-)

  • Pretty much!

  • Close ups please mate!

  • Like Bassetts Allsorts!

  • I'll get her to take some snaps soon, otherwise I'll be collecting them in the next few weeks, whatever they all are...

  • How many drawers are left to be opened?

  • Well she's just found a safe in the garage too, absolutely no idea what was in that. Judging by the fact he kept his stocks and share certificates in carrier bags, there could be anything in there

  • Ever the meddler, I'm wondering if it's a good or bad idea to try to home-regulate a Seiko 7s26c movement. It's losing 25s and word on the web is that's not far outside average, though most seem to gain when new. Dive in or leave well enough alone?

  • Has anyone had any dealings with Chronomaster, the UK distributor for Steinhart? Trying to establish if its best to order direct or through CM assuming there is no currency / exchange benefits on the day.

  • No experience with Chronomaster but the direct experience with Steinhart was pretty solid.

  • Also dealt directly with Steinhart when I bought mine, no issues at all.

  • I think I may have reached my endgame with watches. After getting balls-deep in the whole thing in late 2014 (largely thanks to this damn thread) I've spent an obscene amount (for me) and bought / sold / traded;

    Breitling Colt
    Zeno Explorer
    Omega Aqua Terra
    Panerai PAM0048
    IWC Aquatimer
    Tudor Heritage Ranger
    Rolex Polar Explorer
    Steinhart Ocean 1 Vintage Military
    Breitling Steelfish
    Jeager le Coultre Master Hometime
    Glaschutte Original 70s
    Apple watch

Of these only the GO (for best), the Tudor (for daily) and the Steinhart (for beater) remain in my watch box. I'm even considering selling the Tudor as the Glashutte Original is sporty enough to carry off most duties whilst smart enough for anything short of a dinner jacket.

I'm going to back off on watch forums for a while I think. It's a dangerous rabbit hole and I think I've reached a very happy end game for now.

    Damn it... May regret this....
If anyone is interested in a Destro converted Tudor Heritage Ranger on steel and original camo NATO (nice Hirsch black croc too) let me know. Full set and excellent condition bar a few clasp swirlies. £1400.

  • The Steinhart OVM is my potential first foray into this lark. I saw an Omega 2254 that peaked my interest in watches so until I have the dinar for one of those the OVM will be its substitute.

  • A huge and solid recommendation from me for that watch. Get it quick before the exchange rate smashes the pricing.
