  • No reason why not, although I'd go for internal routing (full housing) for a sleeker look.

  • Not a huge fan of the pompino fork so I'd probably end up buying a new one and I'd like to keep cost to a minimum, being as I have a fair bit to sell think I can cover the cost of a new wheelset for cx mode and all the Brazing I'll need to get done. I'm a huge fan of the mash works frame but don't have the space for a cx bike and the idea of turning the Brooklyn into a versatile bike seems legit to me as I doubt many people would have done it, so I'm on the hunt for some removable cantilever studs so I can weld the bosses on the frame and keep them to mount the brakes and then easily remove them if I strip it back to fixed mode.

  • The mash works frame uses a similar system where the threaded boss stays welded on the frame and the threaded stud that mounts the cantilevers can be removed when not being used as a cx bike. I'm hoping I can hunt these down and then weld them successfully with a frame builder a know giving me the options of running fixed or cx modes without compromising the look too much, I think the bosses will look low key enough that if I run the Brooklyn as standard you won't be able to see the bosses to prominently

  • I doubt many people would have done it.

    I have abet with a carbon CX fork, didn't regret it.

    Those bosses on the Mash Works were very common in mountain bicycles back in the late 90s/early 00s when disc brakes starting to pick up, as the frame come with both disc and canti tabs.

    The biggest concern is whether it'll work with the stay/fork design, thin aero profile fork might be hard to work on.

  • this system has existed in bmx for years. assume it wouldn't be too hard to find parts if you knew where to look..

    @swedeee yeah hunting down the correct bosses is a nightmare Coz I've never used cantilever brakes before, getting a lot of feedback saying to weld a rear bridge and drill the fork for standard calipers but I don't really wana go down that route

  • Have you considered getting disc tabs instead?

  • Ted could probably make the correct bosses for you. He makes pretty much everything else.

    He's also got an unbelievably long waiting list these days.

    plus ANY framebuilder tbh .. arent you tight with Quirk? Otherwise Winston Vaz, Matt from Talbot the list goes on.

    personally I'd decide which brakes, mini V or canti and then look at the manufacturer spec for the brakes, they generally have advised distance (width) between each bosses. I'd go with Paul Minimoto, they dont need that spring hole interface.

    Remember V1 is a commodity that you are fucking with. Think of the resell. Hence get a pomp as MVP.

  • brakes on brooklyns look wrong, just buy a pomp if you want boring functional

  • @amey yeah im tight with quirk, he'll braze the bosses on, just speaking with ted for advise for now, i just got off the phone with him and he liked the idea and has previously done it a tonne of times. I doubt ill be selling it anytime soon specially if i get the work done and if i do ill grind them off and refurb it most likely back to factory.

    just deciding on a brake system V or Canti, if anyone has any suggestions? most systems use the same style boss and location, only concern will be because of the horizontal dropouts ill need to get the bosses welded more towards the top end of the 2 suggested locations and get a system that has a longer travel in the pads to accomodate the movement in the dropouts, which is all slightly confusing

  • I dont have experience of track ends and a V/canti. But get Mini V if you are intending to use with Sram levers. Comparatively easier set up than cantis. Both will stop you.

    I am using TRP CX 8.4 with Sram levers atm, they're great, biggest plus is that they take road pads.

  • Patience is all that's needed when dealing with Ted.

  • ive known Ted a long while, just a bit of a long trek taking the frame up to gloucestershire

  • Quirks hunted down the bosses and the work will be £60 all in which aint bad. Plus of V's is no hangers front and rear which will be less to buy and remove etc ideally want to run Sram singlespeed levers on drops. be a bonus using road pads if i can
