can we still join for tuppence ha'peny and have a vote
or did the labour party close that down after it didn't do quite what they had hoped the last time ? -
• #80
They want a new election because the voters didn't get it right. There's a lot of that about these days.

I would love to know how many people 'on here' have joined the conservative party to vote in their leadership election. Like someone who didn't vote in general elections because they don't believe in them, then thinks about lobbying their MP because they lost the referendum and ends up joining Tory party.

I wonder if all of this has come up in response to Cameron resigning. Maybe the PLP think they have a chance of picking him up.

You're such a wag.

It's one thing selling your soul, quite another to pay for the pleasure of having it taken away.

You need a candidate that won't be at the mercy of the press.
Has anyone suggested Blair yet?
He has a few days before the shit hits the fan and I think he gets on with Murdoch too.
-

Not since he shagged his wife he doesn't.

David Milliband?
-

He's a good diplomat, but about as divisive a figure as Corbyn, in terms of the side of the party he comes from. Too much establishment baggage.

In case anyone was in any doubt about a new election being called...
That's 20 gone out of 32 and counting. I thought hard-left MPs like Lisa Nandy would stick by him. Her quitting shows that this is about more than just where you are in the party politically, but also about leadership qualities. Even if you agree with Corbyn's politics (which I've said before I broadly do) it's worthless if he commands no respect.

One thing I see when looking at most of these candidates is how similar their CVs look. So many appear to have studied some Arts degree at Oxbridge or a similar uni, moved into some role at the Labour party and progressed through to being an MP.
I guess you need experience of the system to get on but I find it hard for that kind of progression to inspire me.

'you cannot see that you have made this all about you'
Yet I can't really see how Corbyn has done this- the PLP has done this. One could argue that Corbyn's participation in the Remain campaign was largely overshadowed by the fact he refused to share a platform with Cameron, which is all the media focused on. That he didn't wake up and realise he needed to change the optics (or, alternatively, he was content to leave them be that way regardless of the consequences for the Remain campaign).
I think that's what Jess Phillips was referring to, IMHO.

Did you see that football game?
Corbyn has to go.
-
• #95
He did nothing to support their campaign, a complete lack of leadership skills.

Not sure that's the best choice of words for an endorsement.

The longer Corbyn clings on the worse Labour's prospects. If we elect a new leader and get a good headstart on the tories in rebuilding party unity we could thrash them in the election. If half the PLP LEAVE AND START A NEW PARTY that's it, tory rule for a generation. Are there any Corbyn supporters with a more optimistic view of the party's future with him in charge? Do they care?

A 'new leader', who exactly?
A non-Metropolitan elite unifier (of the wings of the Labour Party),
who also appeals to the anti-immigrants who comprise the kipper-Tory spectrum?Good luck finding that among the chaff of Oxbridge spads who emerged from selection committees in 2010 & 2015.
