But with FPTP voting, how?
Unless you merge Labour and LibDems but then you have to purge out all the Blairites and the neolib ones in the LibDems.
Or split them in two parties?

How do Hannan, Gove, Rnige, de Pfeiffel sell the freedom of movement climbdown to a revved up kipper voterbase?
Not certain the EU wuld accept those 'derogations' / ignore those equalising standards, as companies operating from the UK would have significant cost advantages compared to, say German-based factories complying with those standards. -

I have no idea what this is supposed to mean.

It's easier to do in Norn Ire, representational democracy but even then progress is ultra slow. Same in ROI. Too many people keep voting the same.
Mate of mine said the libdems have gained a lot of members. Who knows...
But the two party shite system may have to go, but the current lot won't address that obv ;)

Haha sorry, yes that must have seemed pretty cryptic. I meant to link to this:

[alufoil hat]
It's the people pushing the buttons at the banks and the IMF
[/alufoil hat]Joking aside, that also needs tackled. I wish I had an answer bar some mad ideas of an IMF not rigged by fuckers with no oversight.

The queue for the shower in this place, (3 occupants), probably seems a lot to the (UK) libdems.

Talking to our neighbour today. She works as a court interpreter and voted leave because she says she's seen a huge upsurge in crime because of the EU. Fair enough, you have an opinion on something you feel you've experienced and you've connected that opinion to a referendum option. Whether that chain is a logical sequence or not is pretty much by the by as far as I'm concerned, at least now that the vote has been cast. The bit that really riled me is that she was proud to have prevented one of her sons from voting remain because she disagreed with it so much, so he just didn't vote in the end. Her other son voted to leave because she had persuaded him that his Lithuanian girlfriend wouldn't have to leave the country as a result because nobody who's already in the country would be made to leave. I just gave her a blank stare. Then she asked how come my Mrs isn't up the duff yet. If that homegrown garlic I gave you is rotten and full of worms I can't say I'd be upset.
So to paraphrase B&D maybe not all leavers are cunts but I think most cunts probably voted leave. -

Comes back to another favourite of mine: Term limits,
prevents deadwood like the disgraced Liam Fox and John Redwood hanging on for a generation.
2 5-year terms then off back to the real economy. -

He mentioned 4000 new members. Could be a drop the ocean though for what's needed.

Is there a campaign yet for the Kingdom of England to join the EU?
Maybe David Beckham could be captain.. -

I don't know, but the whole point intellectually for Gove and Johnson at least is deregulation, as it is with Patel, Raab and the rest of the Tory right. Their problem is that their deregulation/sovereignty arguments had no impact, so they pivoted to immigration. Now they have a mandate that is very different from the one they sought.

Wonder if we could get London to adopt the Euro

Don't you live in Hertfordshire? That'd be outside the wall.

Why? It's almost as fucked as the pound.

The Working Time Directive seems to be a red rag to them.
Is it more the threat of additional regulation on financial services,
(especially those, that many of us would consider borderline dubious,
i.e. Cameron's father's activities upwards),
where progressive options Tobin Tax, no jurisdiction swapping to allow non-payment of UK tax on UK sales, limits on Bankers bonusses, UK dependencied declared non-cooperative tax havens, etc,
and
now the very real threat that all Euro transactions would be relocated to the Euro zone,
that will cost the Tory and Kipper moneymen backers their livelihoods? -
• #2548
Could the benefit of becoming an unregulated tax haven outweigh single market access for said backers though?
-
• #2549
Yeah, which London?
The old SW, NW post codes,
that bounded by North & South Circular roads,
or that bounded by the M25?
Out here in kipper LBHillingdon I'm 10+ miles away from a Kenbike. -

the solution would be to raise the minimum wage, rather than clamping down on immigration.
Bingo.
To live a life on or near minimum wage, with little job security or career progression is reality for very large proportion of people now and it's difficult to feel part of anything other than an underclass. The fact that the bottom-end of the jobs market is flooded with europeans here short-term, happy to tough it out in a shared bedsit and send money home has bred some resentment.
It's not fucking rocket surgery ... but Jeremy C hasn't really dealt with this at all. I'd like to see him try, then hopefully survive. I like him.
