"It is a feeling that Lael knows well, as she deviated from the official track in the 2015 Tour Divide, following an older course. Officially, she was disqualified from the race, although her time was considered valid. As a result of this error, and the risk of GPS failure, she carries two Garmin eTrex 20 units, each loaded with maps and the race track. She is not carrying maps."

What a race! Incredible performance. Nice of someone to bring her a picnic chair at the finish, too.
-
• #1259
lol that she suddenly emerged rolling down the wrong road to the finish on the live stream :-D!

Video requires Facebook login.
Why is all ultra stuff on bloody Facebook? Don't they know I have enough time wasting opportunities already? Plus my mum is on Facebook so it is definitely not cool.

No it doesn't. I'm watching it without logging in.

Worked for me without logging in to facebook.

Watch the most recent video on Facebook
When they meet she asks hey - whats your name?
When he says Stefan , she just starts pedalling like crazy. Themn she take a wrong turn and Stefan tells her and asks her to stop and speak for 1 min. He says - we have been battlign fro 4000 (or whatever) miles - shall we finish together. She says Hell no and starts pedalling.
Haha. Stefan will be a broken man I am sure.

It's a fucking race. Not a tea party.
-
• #1268
I agree. Everyone wanted a sprint finish. Any bullshit hand holding over the finishline would just be crap.

Hes done a very impressive ride. LW teamed up from day 3, I guess riding on your own, making all the route decisions, stop decisions etc can wear you down. From his profile he lives in Greece so doing all that on alien roads can not have been easy.
I find it easier to accept a few route errors if they are genuine mistakes, but deliberatly pairing up if you are in contention is against the spirit of the ride -

Hopefully she'll go back and cycle the right way in to the finish to avoid a DQ.
(The FB video shows her coming down Main St whilst the correct route was down Comte De Grasse St.)

It appears rules don't count for much in Transam.
-

Either they'll be tightened up (or more likely clarified) for future editions, or future entrants may take more and more liberties.
Regardless, it's not going to stop people riding it, or bickering about it.
-
• #1273
Well given that all of the top 3 made possible / alleged rule transgressions, it seems unlikely that there will be many official complaints.

There was a diversion in place to the finish, Nathan mentioned it in the live videos.
-
• #1275
(As mentioned elsewhere, it was a poor attempt at sarcasm.)
The infrequent SPOT tracker updates suggest just two minutes between them at the finish but that's obviously not true from the videos. Not sure what goes down as the official finish time. Lael is down as taking 18 days 0 hours and 10 minutes according to TrackLeaders.
