Anyone know why Jay Petervary/Cheatervary is so far down the field? Would have thought he'd be higher up in contention

14mi gap now (LW last update 4 mins ago, SS last update 1 min ago).
58.7mi to go to fin.

Because he's not cheating?

clearly struggling to hoist a sail this time round...

How much distance remains?
It's quite hard to see that on the map... do they have another sleep, or will the next full push be the last (albeit a long push)?

Actually just hover over their number.

Wow, cool. Missed that totally.
46.7 miles to go... she must be shattered, but it must be so hard to let up the pace now.

Do we know why he turned round and went the wrong way? Tired, to repeat a missed section or whatever?
She has certainly taken her opportunity, increasing her speed since catching him.

When was Lael's last stop? Surely she's only got a couple of hours left now.

From the FB video earlier today (at "Sheetz", with the drony American accent) it was tiredness, he had stopped and simply started out again the wrong way, it was only when he bumped into Lael coming towards him that he realised he'd done it.
The danger of being tired and just following the pink line on a GPS and not having it setup or looking at "Distance to next" or whatever.

Oops... I was going to say that a re-routing seemed implausible. His last apparent major deviation from the course was way back in Charlottesville so would have been a c.400mile detour.

OSM maps are smaller
I've just downloaded the OSM one and it comes out at just 815 Mb. Guess I needn't have worried about needing big cards.

he is going to relive that moment a few times

Hazard of the job, I guess. He must be really tired as he's normally faster than her on the road so he should have been able to drop her. But tiredness + being pretty demoralised, leading for two weeks and throwing it away, clearly meant he couldn't!

Garmin Europe was ~7gb but I don't recall how much of that was useless shit. Might be potential to strip it down.

I'm reading the RAAM book (Hell on Two Wheels) and it goes into the mind games a bit.
Jure Robic DNFd with 50mi to go because they felt the time penalties they'd been given were unfair. Baloh lost motivation when he was passed by 4th place rider and slumped after that. Lots of mind games. Amazing how you can be crushed when someone you don't expect catches you.
I like to do that to people in TTs
"What, but you had 8 pints at the pub, you, but wait, what? You race?! How did, what the"

So close to finishing under 18 days, about 20 miles left for the last hour of the day.

"Why is he sitting up? OMG is that a hamburger in his bento box?!"
Nah, it's the OSM maps that killed the 810. The 1000 with Garmin maps and factory maps has so far just worked. Can kill the 800 with OSM maps but how to kill the etrex?
