I only took 1 garmin last year.
I debated a 2nd a long time. But I had a phone with a map system on it. With the route on the map app.

I'll likely take 2 Garmins, phone with maps, maybe a town list on paper or something though I'm so far behind on this shit I'll proabbly forget.

Didn't yours die and you had to use a spare SD card?
