Cheers. Can see the route from that link though. Looking at it ill probably follow sustrans route 4 and drop down to cheddar instead of following it to bath unless anyone thinks there's a better route.

Have 'cribbed' the LFGSS ride to Avebury, going to follow that -joining at Reading - then head down to cheddar via Chewton Mendip. Kind of follows the canal and does get on the path at places but thought roads likely to be quicker and looking at the comments seems a shame not to try and get a look at the wessex downs en route rather than canal path all the way.
