I'd like to put my point forward in a more eloquent fashion but Farage is a fucking dog fucker.

I'm willing to forgive tenuous old links.
I'm not so willing to forgive him for his consistent "Themmuns from over there" attitude. He's shifted the debate and made xenophobia more salonfahig.
Does that mean it leads to murder and violence? Well, it's the old debate of who loads the gun and who provides the bullets and who shoots.
But it shifts the mood in a society, in howfar it leads to actions I don't know and that's open to academic research (which there may be, I just haven't read it) and I don't want to do the old "jumping to conclusions". But, still, fuck Farage for selling simple solutions in a complex world.

I agree although I wouldn't describe a progression of Nazi flirtation and far right links that can be traced back to his schooldays right through to his most recent allies in Europe as tenuous.
For me, it's the building up of a picture of the man and his ideals, not an errant or isolated incident. So yeah, fuck him.

That makes me feel slightly less depressed about politics.
Wish there was a similar article about Brexit.

Good, it's time someone stood up to all the bullshit being touted about.
There should be a 'test' for published claims. As it seems anyone can say anything.

Just in case anyone was thinking of fleeing to America in the event of Brexit - you'd best do it before Trump becomes president and bans all British people on security grounds...

Fortunately his polls are plummeting and he's just fired his campaign manager (I know, the campaign was managed!?!?!). Things are not looking rosy for the Drumphster at the moment.

hopefully his downward trajectory will continue ad infinitum
although from all the anti hilary stuff in the us press, i'm not sure she'd be much better for the world in all honesty

There is something very primadonna like about all these lone gunmen.
-
• #41290
Lone gunman rather than white liberal terrorist.
He's probably mentally ill.
-
• #41291
Was described as mentally ill on the Beeb this morning.

Autism and once considered committing suicide is what I read. That's proper mental illness that.
-
• #41293
Which is good that at least some in the mainstream media are now prepared to call it as it is. The fringe news reports have been spot on about Trump from the start.

Just to correct you, ASD isn't a mental illness, it's a neurological abnormality.

In world news (America), it would be a breach of an American's constitutional rights to be refused the sale of an assault rifle just because they were under investigation by the FBI for suspected terrorism.

Aside from the whole "everyone having access to assault weapons and concealed carry handguns being utterly fucking stupid" argument, this is exactly as it should be - not being afforded your rights on the basis of unchecked arbitrary shitlists is about as unconstitutional as it gets.

This is a pretty nuanced article about the whole gun control issue, specifically with AR-15s.
http://www.vox.com/2016/6/20/11975850/ar-15-owner-orlandoJust to nit-pick, they aren't assault riffles, they're semi-automatic. Assault riffles carry on firing when you hold down the trigger...
I think at this stage it would be nearly impossible to ban guns in America (which is a shame because that would, you know, solve the problem). The genie is out of the bottle. Clearly, they need more control over access though.
The problem seems to be (apart from the fact that guns are legal and too easily acquired) a numbers issue; America has a population of 318.9 million. Statistically, there are just always going to be way more people with mental health issues in a country where they can pop out and get a gun and loads of ammo.
Apparently Farage called Jo Cox murder terrorism but then he also says this...
