What a disappointing Suisse from Thomas. This felt like a really good opportunity for him to step up and he has been a little lacking.
-

I think he's disappointed too. But we don't know how he came into the race, i.e. did he come in tired to time his form right for the Tour.
To be fair, it's been a particularly cold and wet edition of the race. Which affects taller riders like Thomas and Van Garderen more than the smaller riders like Spilak and Lopez, because they're riding with minimal body fat to be competitive in the mountains.
He should move up the GC a bit tomorrow, with a 16 km time trial.

My perhaps dodgy preconception was his ability in the classics might put him in good stead for bad weather days in the mountains. Clearly not.
-
• #8355
He's had to lose a few kgs from his classics weight, and I'd imagine he's down to around 5% body fat. That matters in cold and wet conditions.

117k stage on sunday.
That'll be a good watch. Will be brutal. -

Just noticed dowsett was DNF a couple days ago.
Shame.

Bad day for Brits in stage races today, Thomas dropped on the only climb of the day in Switzerland and finishes well down the field, losing 11 minutes and dropping down to 17th overall, and Hugh Carthy crashed and lost third place overall in the Route du Sud.
Thankfully the forum's own @taogeogheganhart won the final stage of the Tour de Savoie.

Shame for Hugh. Don't think it'll affect his step up to WT though.
Shitter all the same. -

Olympics selection is causing some upset and outrace!
-
• #8361
If it is the Olympic selection.
Given performances on the road this season, I think taking Emma Pooley is a big risk as she was way off the pace at the Women's Tour last week. It's definitely harsh on Dani King, as she has had a good season so far.

I'm thinking back to the wet worlds when our pissed up hero was the only one that finished the worlds course. Obviously shane suttons fault.

Are you talking about Florence in 2013? Because none of the British team finished that day, including Cummings.

• #8368
Why no kwiatowski for sky? Am I missing something?
-
• #8369
He was sick at the Dauphine, so they didn't want to risk him.

Has he ever won a one day race in his life?
I don't think he can back it up day after day.
