  • This could affect the referendum even if the Britain first bit is bullshit.

  • A few people at work here talking about the possibility of England being kicked out of Euro 2016 due to violence and it resulting in further resentment towards the EU. Could it all come down to a few men with small penises fighting each other and the plebs that'll base their vote on a football game?...

  • Not good and unconfirmed but it's already setting off the tin hatters on twitter with claims of false flag operations. That'll never get let go.

  • I think I might buy a load of Swiss francs.

  • Yes, Paul Waugh (Huffington Post political editor) talked about that in his news email today:

As for European migration, the English football fan invasion of Lille and Lens isn’t working out so well - and the Euro 2016 match with Wales may not take our minds off Brexit at all. In fact, one Labour insider has sent me a nightmare scenario for Remain, which is as follows: “We do badly against Wales. English fans kick off..UEFA gives us final warning…We only draw with Slovakia…England have to wait for results to see if they go through….Fans kick off…UEFA kicks us out…Brexit gets a 10-point boost”

  • I'm on an MX5 forum (unsurprisingly), there's a guy on there who has lived in Spain for 20 years or something and he is voting leave.

He can't see the irony at all. It's great when people call him an economic migrant, he writes a fucking letter's worth of shit words about how he doesn't care for anyone under 50's opinion because what could they know, they haven't done or seen anywhere near what he has so he's right and everyone else is wrong.

I literally want to stab myself in the eyes every time I read one of his posts. I don't go on that forum any more.

Car forums are littered with mouth breathers, the worst was when I owned a classic Mini because for each awesome person into Minis, there is a proper racist, skinhead, St. George's cross toting, "you're not English" shouting, cunt.

  • I'm on a Volkswagen forum that has changed radically over the last ten years.

It used to be progressive, compassionate and intelligent and now it's like reading the Daily Mail.

  • Pistonheads has become intolerable, their version of M&M has a new thread about the EU, UKIP, and migrants every day, all with a very anti, pro, anti stance, with few to share a contrasting opinion, and those who do are shouted down. You can't avoid it by just staying out of that bit and just reading shit about cars either, because it's spilling out and spoiling the whole forum.

  • Forums can become a bit like echo chambers... The best thing to do is just provide a bit of a rational argument even if it is pissing in the wind.

  • Forums can become a bit like echo chambers... The best thing to do is just provide a bit of a rational argument even if it is pissing in the wind.

  • That's the thing about forums. Over time, they can become a bit like echo chambers. I have found it is best to do just provide a bit of a rational argument, although it may feel as though you are pissing in the wind.

  • Exactly!

  • The thing you need to understand about forums is that you'll often get an echo of your rational arguments. Although it may feel as if there's too may lefties pissing in the wind the soggy trousered twats.

  • C c c c c combo breaker!

  • OverclockersUK was the forum that I used to post on.

There's only so much rational debate to be had, before the filthy stench of entrenched homophobia, xenophobia, and outright bigotry from the top down becomes too much to bear.

  • Ah. Got ya. The only forums I frequent are Ars Technica and this place.

Everywhere else seems scary and shouty.

  • Overclockers UK isn't the one where the owner of the site and shop was an overt white supremacist?

  • OverclockersUK was the forum that I used to post on

    nerd

  • I jouned m3cutters when I was looking for the M3... next level.. I can't bear to read their brexit thread and you're right, any random thread could be punctuated by some horrible remark. I wan't worried about brexit a few months ago, then I realised that this is a slice of the national demographic. gulp.

  • Just wandered into the mechanical workshop at uni. Vote leave badge proudly on display. Generally despairing.

  • There's almost no Remain badges/posters anywhere. Is it because the reasonable, obvious position is to be in the EU? 'Remain' doesn't need postering everywhere, just like 'don't punch your neighbour in the face' doesn't need postering? Is it the same thing as the people flying St George's flags outside their homes being the ones you'd fucking hate to get into a conversation with in the pub? We never really overthrew our monarchy, we never actively rejected our empire - is our sense of nationalism just utterly distorted, no real point to it, no purpose or obvious point of pride - just ING-UR-LAND? What does British isolationism mean? What would we become? I don't want to have the stupid and wilfully ignorant and racists decide my future. Why is this being allowed to happen?

  • Other than singing to the choir on social media, does anyone have any suggestions for how to support the remain campaign?

I'm now starting to get genuinely worried about the risk of leaving.

  • I'm left-wing and for brexit. Me and Dennis Skinner against the fucking Blairites.
