seller was from Guildford (wherever that is in England)

  • It's close to London, 30 mins train ride :)

  • Very well preserved!

    It is indeed!
By far the nicest bike I own!
Have to research the original owner. Custom made for B. J. Herring. Seems as though the Eagle Rd club is in Essex and still going strong.

  • Wow! That is in lovely shape!
I have some wonderful large flange campag wheels, with tied and soldered spokes that would be perfect for it (with some cleaning!)....they are tubs, but weigh nothing. You need to come and search through my stash of vintage parts, as you are a buyer!!

  • That would be great!
I have a set of Cyclo Wheel carriers on the way

  • Good god that frame makes me insanely jealous

  • I can vouch for the Aladdin's cave-like quality of @Stedlocks garage.

  • :0)

    There's more stashed throughout too.....!

  • Excellent, I look forward to checking your stash / hoard out!

  • In other news, I've cocked up. I purchased a saddle support not realising it required a braze on on the frame. Any know if there is a band on something that could help here?

  • some examples here

is this to stop the nose of the saddle from lifting?

  • Yep, to stop the nose of the saddle lifting in the steep banking / large sprint efforts.
    Those pictures are great.

  • Apologies in advance, I've had this frame out in the sun this morning so am going to share a few nicer photos.
The note in the steerer tube reads as follows:
"Brian. Build by foreman @ Hobbs from Manor Park Shop. Special Order."
I assume the 'Brian' is the B.J Herring on the TT. I didn't realise that Hobbs had a shop in Manor Park (apparently only for a short while) but the VCC marque enthusiast Peter confirmed this to me at Eroica.

  • Now that is fantastic!

  • it is in good hands.

  • Looks amazing!

  • So, to complicate things, I now have a Vittoria Margherita gearset! It's the ultimate for me. Now need to find a '30's Italian frame to put it on. Any suggestions?

  • where do you find all these things??!! And can you stop buying them all and leave some for us?!

  • Maybe a Bianchi, Legnano, Umberto Dei, Frejus, Galmozzi, Ganna, Gloria, Olympia...

  • Cheers, I don't know anything about 30's Italian bikes but these are a great starting point!

  • The details are mind blowing.

  • Here are a few more pics of the Vittoria Margherita now it has arrived.
Pretty awesome 80 year old tech.

    Tipo Giro di Francia

    Settore dentato con fascette

    Maniglietta con albero flessibile

    Deragliatore automatico campionissimo

    Asta con bilancere

  • Just spotted a Hobbs in Kew Green. Very nice, forgot to take a picture

  • So the Blue Riband is getting the Harden Bacon Slicer treatment. Just have a rear 40H at this stage. It's missing a dust cap but can hopefully convince someone to make me one up.
