Help! Can anyone confirm the correct position for the front Flint catcher? Out the front of the calliper or out the back?
-
• #532
I think the flint catcher is supposed to be at the back
-
• #533
I agree front back - back front or both opposite the brake calliper.

Ok, cool! Thanks gents

And here we have the original 47 Clubweight with a few new touches Eroica Britannia ready!
My brother will be riding this one. Once again, can't recommend Joel from Blue Door cycles highly enough especially when you're as mechanicaly inept as I am. He'll treat all your old shit with the care it deserves. -

Just lovely. Would really like a hobbs, very jealous of yours. What rim/hub combination is that, by the way?
-
• #537
Yeah it looks really good. Nice job.

Thanks! They're Classic Lightweight budget option approved Weinmann Alesa. Not that different and special and I have made a bit of a faux pas by matching a large flange hub (Harden) with 26" rims and spokes that are perhaps larger than ideal. Rear hub is Sturmey Archer FW (wide ratio 4 speed).

That looks great. Both of them.
May I say that the front mudguard should be attached behind the fork crown. It will be a better fit as the flat bit will rest at the bottom of the crown between the blades. It will be a more rigid setup and won't flap about much on rough terrain. Then you could carefully bend the plate so the guard follows the curvature of the tyre.
Also front catcher is not catching at the moment. -

Have to say, never really understood the small flange hubs only with with 26" rims rule. Look fine to me, and as long as they ride well as well, I see no problem...

So @Thomo6 put me onto the gent that sold me my last Hobbs.
The gent also had a Blue Riband for sale. I sent him a message today as I'm without a decent vintage project at the mo and he still has it. It's now mine and I collect at Eroica.I'm thinking period track build.
Need help with stem, post, and rim / hub combo suggestions

don't think you should stop.. this is the thread that made me like older bikes/bits..

I was hoping that when you finished your last Hobbs that would be it for a while to give the rest of us a chance of getting that elusive part before you snaffle them all up. Oh well I will just have to watch your build again and wait for the scraps ;0)
I love my Blue Riband fixed but have decided to sell as it just does not get enough use. they are nice on the road not too agressive.

there was a red Blue Riband in the latest V-CC newsletter (rec'd in Australia today) was this it?
I am pleased to have mine, and there is another Hobbs, a 1937 that is also in Adelaide. (I will try to get the new owner to post it on this thread.)
So two that are out of your reach! On the plus side, I think we have the future Hobbs Marque Enthusiast in our midst.

Absolutely beautiful craftsmanship.

Not sure unfortunately Phillip. Does it list a name of the person selling?

Good to hear! This will be my first fixed build! What hub / rim combo do you have and have you got a recent pic?
