  • Mrs porkypie is taking the kids up north at the end of June for the weekend. I'm contemplating riding from work at gatwick to newhaven, getting the midnight ferry and then doing a loop to come back on the 1730. Anyone done this and know any pleasant loops?
Obviously I'll be able to pack pretty light, but will have to sleep on the ferry in a seat...

  • The Avenue Verte is fabulous - 30 miles of pan flat, beautifully smooth, car free loveliness. Runs from about 6 miles SE of Dieppe on what was a railway line to Forges-les-Eaux. Recommend a ferry cabin too if you can... Ferry sails at 11pm and arrives about 5am French time.

  • Sounds amazing, no cabins available though, which would mean bunking down in a chair/on the floor?
