Thought the right colour would pop with the frame, cloth tape would Ok.
I would keep the shifters and levers.

I get what you mean but those bars always look better with cloth tape. The shifters and levers are staying for now but will eventually get replaced, in the long run that is. They're from an 80's Shimano mtb group I've got. They're well made, robust and simple. Built to last.

Why? Chain retention? Cassette range?
-
• #108583
Why?
Tidier cable route.
Chain retention?
No, I'm not putting a clutched RD on
Cassette range?
No, the X0-DH only goes up to 28T, same as a road RD

I know extremely little about routing the RD cable, but thanks for the answer :)

Finally found the time to build my first generation Master. Hoods aren't original but I'm still in doubt what colour to take. Yellow straps are on their way.

Finally a new project, wanting a nice steel frame for a long time and then this popped up on a local site:
Koga Full Pro C, a nice steel frame with carbon forks (if anyone can tell more about it, yes please).
At first I wanted to do some small changes but then a full black Athena 11 spd groupset popped up at a really good price so I bought it. Will arrive this week.
Got me a Thomson stem and seatpost out of the partsbin and also found a classic flite which will suit it nicely.
Then from the money I get from selling the parts (full 5500 groupset, PM when interested) I'll buy myself some hubs and rims and start building a nice wheelset.
It looks like this now:

i meant it. i'm all for ratting up nice bikes but i'd be scared of dropping that

i have a healthy stock pile of them atm, as they're a little bit prone to bending

Hi Forum,
Currently building up a Gazelle with a modern 10 speed gruppo.
I have in the parts bin a pair of 10 speed 5700 brifters. The only problem is that I can't work out how to fit new gear cables. I've tinkered about with small screws got the flat bladed screwdriver in to try and prize off covers.
Nothing doing! I've checked Shimano's website. What am I not doing properly? It is very frustrating - it's enough to send my hair brown again! -

small progress on my track project:
found the holy grail. campag record pista headset, nice and ratty as i like 'em.
thought it was the last bit to go but after kal_yxo fucked me over, i need a non pitted bb axle too. and thanks to an ebay seller i now have a 32h fiamme rim i have no use for despite being advertised as 36h (the guy even wrote 36 on the rim with a permanent marker). anyone want a trade?
at least i built the front wheel, which is nice..

Sounding good. Bugger about the rim, what a douche! Not able to return it?
Out of interest how do you identify a pista headset?

@hma it's a local (Belgian) brand: Velda Cable Technics (http://www.velda-cabletechnics.com/upload/pdf/LR-velda-cycling-cataloog.pdf)
Don't know if they sell worldwide.

Good to know, they do feel a little fragile but really like the shape. Guess you can't have everything.
