Spot on @MechaMorgan It can be frustrating at times but you'll ultimately come out with something that's a total one-off, warts and all, and not much can top that. +1 for being diligent with masking/covering surfaces you don't want painted too; overspray is an inevitable but controllable factor.
Go full on and don't hold back is what I say. Carefully plan out what you want to do in your head and take it step by step. No need to rush it and keep telling your self that the stuff you don't see i.e. prepping & masking is important. As @i_am_lono wrote there is a learning curve and you learn through your mistakes. Make some test runs first. I ruined many many hours of work by spontaneously deciding to throw on a coat of that montana marble spray paint of a frame that already felt finished. You live and you learn. Stay in the rabbit hole, go deeper. If you fuck up you can always start from scratch and do a better job the next time around.
