Any idea why I can't connect my fenix 2 via Bluetooth to my moto g and sync stuff thru Garmin connect?
-
• #3428
Also, which cadence doodads etc work with the fenix? Gsc10 and all the normal stuff from a bike?
-
• #3429
Look at the thisisant directory here https://www.thisisant.com/directory/
But if ant+ will work with other ant+ accessories.
For example if fenix 2 https://www.thisisant.com/directory/feenix-2/

Good. I just need to change the batteries then.....
Trainer road here I come. Again. The sync thing is a bother though.

Sigh, is anyone else with a 500 experiencing battery indication issues?
Mine refuses to show a battery status of anything other than 100%, even after 9 hours of use yesterday. This means either it's wrong, or I have the world's greatest Garmin. It certainly used to show a reduction in battery which makes me wonder if it was a firmware 'update' that done it.

500's never run out of battery and thats a fact.
never had to charge my 500 in the 3 years of owning it, by the time I had plugged it in and synced my ride it was always back to full charge. Although I agree it would be handy to know what % it actually was - mine now does the same.

I'm in the same situation, with a dumb phone. I have an eTrex 20. For less than £100 (ebay) it's brilliant. I use plotaroute.com to plan things in advance, and one of the TalkyToaster maps for all of UK in great detail. Never use any performance stat wankery

It does charge quickly, so to check I switched it back on straight after the ride before plugging it in.
It'd be handy to know battery life is all...

I'm looking for a GPS thing for two main types of ride:
Getting from A-B quickly and safely.
Exploring for a few hours at a time without getting totally lost.I'm not interested in heart-rate / cadence / performance stats etc, and would rather not pay for functions I won't use, so I've been reading about the Garmin Touring.... A few reviewers say that although the routes are often very scenic, they are not usually the most direct for just getting somewhere in a hurry. One reviewer claimed it added 50 minutes to his commute just to include nice cycle paths.
So: is there a GPS unit out there that lets you choose between fast and direct (but cycle-friendly) routes, and pure scenic-route explorations (like the Garmin Touring seems to offer)?
Reluctant to use phone apps etc because my phone is shit.
Just to clarify - will a Garmin 810 do what I want?
Other than not including expensive / extraneous performance functions, obviously. -

No, if you use the on device routing.
-
• #3437
what happens if I use the on device routing?
-
• #3438
There are only a few options for routing , bicycle, pedestrian or car/motorcycle.
Bicycle will take you down tracks, as will the pedestrian option. Not having used the car option I cannot comment. There is an additional option of on road or off road.
Additionally the on device routing depends on the map currently active if you have more than one map installed.

I think using the Velomap maps gives you more options on routing to do cycle friendly but not unpaved roads, etc

Thanks @freezing77, much appreciated.
Just couple more questions if anyone knows the answers, then I'll stop banging on about it:
If I set it to "bicycle" and "on road", will that be ok for just getting from A to B?
and when I want to explore, maybe I just go wherever I like and ask it to direct me home when I'm done? (or even before i leave - and just let it re-route constantly until I feel like following it?)
-
• #3441
Well, it'll get you home but it might not be the fastest way.
Yesterday, I rode to TBW and it was ~75k. On the way back I thought I'd follow the Garmin and it was making the route over 100k. I've had it double the actual distance before, turning 100k return ride straight down the A40 into a massive 200k hoop.
It can do a 'return home' or a track back which will send you back the way you came.
-
• #3442
Set your "home" as a location. You can then use the "where to" function to direct you home.
Additionally if you have recalculate set to "prompted" you can choose to ignore the calculated route or not.The easiest way to save a location is when your device has a fix is to hold and release the satellite signal strength indicator. This will bring up the save location menu, where you can name the location as desired.

Does the Edge 1000 actually work with Live Tracking?
If I enabled it, and rode an audax this weekend, only turning my phone on at controls, would it update my position in Garmin's website?

Have a problem with my GSC10 Speed/Cadence sensor. Eats batteries, not lasting more than 1-2 weeks. Initial battery in the sensor lasted over a year.
Any ideas ? Bad batch of batteries ?

GSC10
I don't use any sensors. I recall from Polar days that there was a dip switch in the speed sensors that you could set to boost the signal strength - you didn't alter that did you?
Leaving bike with magnet near the sensor can drain it quickly too.
It's most likely batteries though - did you buy quality ones or cheapies? Even quality ones could've been old or something.

Batteries are possibly suspect - bought from LBS that had them in bulk and sold cheaply.
I'll give a supermarket bought Duracell a go and see what happens.Have read about the theories about the magnet leaving the sensor 'on' and draining the battery. However had the initial battery in there for a year or so without taking any care about magnet/sensor alignment and all was well.

New battery into the GSC10 last night, deleted and re-paired all ok. Magnets well away from the sensor overnight
This morning the 520 can't find the sensor (tried deleting and re-pairing again). Holding down the test button on the unit gives the red/green lights as the magnets go past.I suppose I should just buy the new cadence/speed sensor combo. Annoying as I rarely use it, only on a rainy day on the rollers when I can't be arsed to go out.

Going away for 10 days, and will do a bit of riding. No computers or net cafes local. Got a Garmin 800, and will have a couple iPhones and an iPad. Any smart ways to sync my rides? iOS' laughable lack of file navigation system means I can't plug an SD card in to it, unfortunately.

Or just do without the sensor?
Did you happen to come to a stop just after a hard section?
