  • 2 year project, wasn't it?

  • Beautiful wheels, Joel...

On the subject of Maseratis, turns out one of my new Brisbane mates owns this, he's offered to take me for a drive in it... Cannot wait...

  • ^This and a DS estate are my two french desires.
Edit. and a Traction Avant makes it three.

  • Yup, always loved the Safari... My dad promised me he'd buy a DS when he passed his test in 1976, did he fuck!?!

  • See the new Quattroporte is in the 'derelicht' style...

  • my favourite motor of all time Joe. be sure to get some decent pics and put up on here

  • yep, def that^

  • Will do, it's deffo in my top five... He's only owned Citroens since he was a teenager, he's my age so he's traded up in that time... He's left himself with nowhere to go tho', how can you top an SM?!?

  • So I've found a 1977 Porsche 911 Targa with 202k km on the clock. It's also within budget.

    So, so tempted...

  • The BX 16v is a marvellous car, though of course I'm biased. Roaring up the sliproad onto the motorway always bring a smile to my face.

Gandini drove the BX to work (well at least according to the ad men...)

  • Question is how much of a money pit is it going to be?

  • What's the service history like?

  • It's a US import car, "full service history" and the majority all done by the original californian dealer.

Only the last few services were done by a local workshop that specialises in Porsches.

  • This in Sweden?

  • No, Germany. It's a 30 minute drive from where my old folks live...

  • If you've got the storage space available then go for it.

  • Anyone on here good at getting into cars? Not a leading question or an attempt to get you to incriminate yourselves...

I have an old Jeep Cherokee/Liberty, which has been sitting outside of my house unused for 6 weeks or so, while I recuperate from a mad driver trying to kill me when out on my motorbike. In that time, the battery has drained itself, so I thought I would take it out and pop it on charge (something I now realise I should've done a little while ago). Of course the doors won't open off the key fob and when I put the key in the driver's door lock (the only one that can be opened wth a key), there's a very unsatisfying clunk of nothing happening.

Short version, I can't get in to pop the bonnet to take the battery out to charge it. When I finally do get it off, I know it's going to be a nightmare, because it's an AGM battery, which are notorious bastards to bring back from the dead. That, however, is a problem I would like to have.

Can anyone offer a solution short of calling the AA and getting it taken in to a garage? Even if I did that, I would have no way of driving it back for now, as my foot is in plaster, so getting in while it's outside my house is my preference.

    Thanks for listening...

  • How much do you know about old 911s?

Do you know what noise the engine makes if a head stud is snapped? And that if it makes that noise you need a £5k engine rebuild?

The gearbox that crunches a bit into second that the seller says just needs adjusting and that they all do that - that's a £2 - 3k bill.

Rusty kidney bowls? Probably the tip of an iceberg sized full body restoration.

Looks fucking cool though, so if it's a good one you should get it. Just make sure you know what you're getting into. And lose that rear spoiler and chrome arch trims. I wonder why the sill trims are a different colour...

  • You need to hook a battery pack or spare battery via jump leads up to a decent live and an earth just to push in enough power to the car to get the remote to work. If you're in the AA they should be able to sort it and either sell you a new battery or leave you with an open car for you to buy and fit one.

  • How can he use jump leads when he can't open the bonnet?

  • This is a question about mispent youth, surely...

  • Presumably there would be a live and an earth under the car (as opposed to the battery) I could hook up to? Being a dunce when it comes to car mechanics and electrics, I would have no idea what I'm looking for. Also tricky while on crutches...

  • Indeed. Unfortunately mine was spent bombing around on motorbikes, not breaking into cars - which appears right now to have been a poor choice on two levels.
